Well, it looks like people were right. Despite Phil Ryu's promises this appears to be yet another app from him that has been abandoned. It hasn't been updated since July, and an email, sent two weeks ago, enquiring about when an update might be forthcoming has gone answered. They must be raking in the money, with the app being featured prominently on the latest iPhone TV ad. You'd think they could update it once in a while. Shame, as it's a really good app. :(

I don't want to go into much detail but more serious things currently occupy the attention of my business partner/developer. We have an update in the wings but I can't make any promises as to when it will be submitted. Sorry.

I have it - i haven't had TIME to read enough to make a judgement. But like someone up there said, I paid for the formatting (actually, i think i managed to snag it free - nope, 99 cents). To get all these in a nice format for 99 cents rocks. I have something handy to start reading to the kids, or to hand my teenager to read.

For me, even if it never got updated i don't regret my buck.

I got an app free that had some books in it - the formatting and typos were horrid. And they SELL other content (Softcovers?). It was bad, I sent an email telling them that (heck, the screen shots in the app store showed them!), it was enough to turn me off.

But for public domain classics, all gathered in one spot? Perfect!

I actually blogged this morning on the topic of e-reading vs the printed book. I'm not enjoying reading a "real book" - i'm spoiled again reading on a "PDA" .

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. If you have a good reason for not updating Classics recently then that's fine. You can't blame people for wondering though given your track record. I look forward to the update when to comes.

Yes, but not being able to download new books to it leaves you at the mercy of updates when you've read the included books.

Which is why i have an eReader account. For me, i'd probably not buy a standalone version of a book in an app. I'd use eReader or Kindle.

I bought my first eReader book (Peanut Press) back on may 15, 2001. I paid a decent amount back then to get books digital instead of having to go to the bookstore. I was a mom working full time with a toddler - leisure trips to the bookstore didn't happen, e-books were instant.

This app isn't about that - it was about getting a decent set of Classics for a good price. Will it be nice when they can add more? Sure.... but for 99 cents in my case, $2.99 currently, I get a copy of Dracula, and 23 others. Cruising the eReader store i can buy just Dracula for $1.99 on up to $7.99.

So if you look at the value from that standpoint, isn't it good how it sits content wise?

I guess I just look at it from a different side. I didn't buy it expecting more books, i bought it because of what it had at the time. Like every other app i've bought - i don't buy on promises.
