Apple has zero excuses @2:12
Thin & light, water resistant no problem and it just works, my youngest inadvertently tested my MateBook X, no drama...

Have it professionally cleaned by an independant Mac specialist, if you have the skills; remove the back plate disconnect the battery and isolate the battery connecter. Flush the keyboard with industrial contact cleaner (a lot), ensure to use one that leaves no residue and is suitable for electronics, leave to dry for 48 hours. Preferably you want to strip the top case out of the chassis, however that not so easy with modern Macs, well maybe not so much the disassembly :p

Isn't Huawei equipment banned in US ?

Don't know the details, so unsure if it relates the likes of the MateBook. I would imagine that they are available for individuals, if not a dam shame as the MateBoox & MatBook X Pro are excellent ultraportable's. certainly impressive Huawei's level of attention to detail given their limited time producing notebooks.

Matebook D & E are not to the same standard with the D being an entry level 15" clamshell and the E a 2in1 that needs more polish. Still worth keeping an eye open as with every iteration Huawei seems to make significant improvement.

Lot of interesting hardware on the PC side these days, recent found that Acer produce a 13.5" W10 tablet with detachable keyboard that has a quad core CPU & dGPU that's passively cooled

Well...

when i spilled peach vodka on my 2008 unibody mbp, i disconnected the battery and cleaned it with WD40.
I wouldn't recommend doing that on the touchbar 13" tho, get a top-case replacement.

We sell a lot of macbooks from years 2013-2015 and they usually get glossy keys so what we do is order new keyboards and use a dental pick to remove every key and then remove every key from the new keyboard and place it on macbook. Takes us around 15min no more. So what you can do is remove every single key and clean it with alcohol and some swabs. But we have tried once to replace some keys on the touchbar and for first time you will most likely end up breaking a few keys, so I would advise to order a new keyboard on ebay (run around $40-50). We also replace keyboards but if you have never done it before your chances of removing keyboard is maybe 5% because it's stapled with extremely tiny studs and requires special way to remove them (theres around 100 of them). Can also try removing logic board and try placing palmrest in some detergent or something then give an alcohol bath after and dry it in an oven. If all fails buy a used palmrest assembly on ebay.

Everything sounds fine except "oven drying" after dousing it in alcohol.

first, it's cheaper and better to use isopropyl (isopropanol) alcohol (https://www.berkshire.com/learning-center/dyk_1408_why_ipa/)
second, it evaporates quickly so oven drying is unnecessary and can cause damage inadvertently.

So what you are saying is that the external keyboard that got fried got lucky or unlucky compared to what would happen on a laptop?

Best title post of 2018 ? :p

Yeah definitely quite the title :). And whether intended or not, the bit about the keyboard getting lucky just topped it off.

I spilt a chai latte on an apple external Bluetooth keyboard several years ago. Some of the keys remained sticky but the thing still worked, and it made me all the happier that I was using my laptop on a stand at the time.

Another good design in recent times to avoid this is the Surface Pro! The flipside is that they also do the Surface Laptop, which combines the convenience of a soft top keyboard with the madness of not being able to disconnect it. One step forward, one step back....

Uhh ... didn't notice this was not exactly recent, sorry.

MBP has no protection against the liquid, sometimes even one drop can kill whole laptop, there is no simple repair if Apple will find any traces of liquid

this is bad option, because you still have to pay for repair

AppleCare+ for MacBook Air, MacBook, and MacBook Pro includes:
  • Three years (total) limited hardware warranty.
  • Three years (total) technical support.
  • Coverage for two incidents of accidental damage (subject to a service fee of $99 for screen damage or $299 for other damage)

That's still far cheaper than it's going to be without AP+. I'm guessing, but I don't think $600+ is out of the ballpark of what they will charge.

$299>$600+
