I wish Aspyr® & Feral Interactive® would start the porting of some newer games. I played CoD Black Ops already over Bootcamp and this is the same with most of their games. Both are good companies, but waiting for a port 2 years and more, doesn't benefit the hard work they are doing. Also demos would be nice to see if the Mac ports are running well.

2011 MBP13", 2.3GHz i5, 4GB RAM

Also has the supposedly unsupported Intel HD 3000 Graphics card, but can't say I've had any trouble, seems to be pretty smooth gameplay. Clearly not turned up to full graphics settings though!

I have the same Mac as you. How's it goin?

I don't want to turn this thread into a discussion wherher Aspyr is bad for OS X gaming or not, but as I said earlier I've bought several of their ports and they've all been brilliant.

Hate the fact that you cannot own Windows copy when you buy at Steam. All because Aspyr won't be getting money but owning Windows copy on Steam already, I didn't want to buy mac version.

It would be great if Valve would pay Aspyr for that. I have over 450 games on Steam and also CoD Black Ops. It would be great to have the Mac option without paying again for it. Valve or the Developers/Publishers did this before with several Mac Games like the Witcher ED, Bastion, Driver SF, R.U.S.E., Team Fortress 2 or TC's Splinter Cell: Conviction. I think CoD Black Ops is the first Mac Game on Steam where you have to buy the Mac version again. I hope this will not make other Mac developers/publishers to jump on this marketing train. Again Aspyr and Feral Interactive are the best Mac porting companies Mac gamers have.

Thats because those games had the same developers/publishers for both versions. I have no issues with paying extra in order to get a mac version. Simply because Aspyr/Feral are entitled to get some money for their efforts, and because to me thats nothing different than purchasing the game for Xbox360 first then later purchase it for the Ps3.

I see windows and Mac OS X as two entirely different plattforms, and when I purchase a ps3 game I don't expect to get a xbox360 copy too.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid. This discussion started with me saying it was sad to see the game ported by Aspyr. You and GreatWumpus jumped to the defense of Aspyr proclaiming them to be company releasing wonderful ports. 2 days later, my fear was confirmed, CoD:BO was just another botched port on the part of Aspyr.

So I was right. That kind of gives me the upper-hand in any discussion.

Aspyr has worked with Infinity Ward to port CoD and CoD2 and CoD4. I don't think you could reasonably hope that Black Ops would be ported by Feral Interactive.

CoD: Black Ops was not a botched port. It runs insanely great on iMacs and it even runs at full resolution on my unsupported MacBook Pro 2011 13" with Intel HD 3000 graphics.

If you don't want to buy the game.... don't buy it. It's up to other users to read the system requirements and make the call to buy it or not. Stop acting like some hero who's here to save the world by calling out Aspyr on what was a business decision.

any help?

I can't recall if this has been mentioned already but with each passing day hopefully the Mac online community for Black OPS is growing anyway so...

How is the online community doing so far as of now, on October 2nd? I imagine it is a small number of servers compared to PC but that doesn't phase me really. I only need one server to play on at any given time.

I know a lot of people were very negative about the segregation of Mac players in multiplayer but I still wonder if it isn't kind of a cool thing where the starting player level in terms of skill is probably more equal (assuming many buying it for Mac haven't already played it a lot on PC - not sure if that assumption is right or not) with everyone being new to it. I also wonder if we wouldn't see less issues with cheating, etc. and perhaps a more friendly community with Mac players?

Wait a minute. So you can't play private matches against friends in the mac version, or am I blind?

Edit: Uhm, yep. You can't do private matches. What **** this is. Jesus

There have been about 50-80 players online today as opposed to 10-20 on launch day. Keep in mind that they're not addicted to CoD... yet. :p

There are 194 (I think) servers. Hosted by Apple in several different countries from US and GB to NZ and AU.

I know the Steam version uses anti-cheat. Not sure about the Mac App Store version (which I have).

Hope you buy and play a lot. We need more soldiers on the battlefield!!

I agree that demos would be awesome. Feral does that with a bunch of their games.

Well that's the thing. How do you know when it officially over heats? I wouldn't be surprised if the Mac couldn't handle more than an hour of that heat and fans running at 6000rpm.

If the cpu truly overheats, it has a mechanism to shut itself down before self destructing. I've played several long hours of games, as well as long hours of video editing, off my macbook pro 17. I have SMC fan control, and turn up the fans a bit to 5000 for these activities.

In a worst case scenario, one could shorten the life of the fans themselves, but not the cpu or gfx

Thanks very much. Good to hear numbers are growing.

Since CoD: BO performs badly on nvidia cards due to a bad driver, here is a recently released driver by Nvidia for Mac Pro cards: http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-304.00.05f02-driver.html

According to mac-gamer.net it provides a significant performance boost in CoD: BO

This is NOT a mobile gpu driver and it wont work with the gt650m gpu in the new rMBP

works fine

Anyone with a rMBP test it yet? Hesitant to download...
rMBP 16/2.6/256

I downloaded this on my rMBP and it runs fine at all settings to the max, probably around 30 or 40 fps. unfortunately the highest resolution you can choose is 1440x900 at the moment. apparently nvidia hasn't made a driver for our graphics card yet, but it will be released soon. if you want to test it you can donwload a torrent of it :p

do i have to buy cod blops twice for ps3 and mac?

do i have to buy cod blops twice for ps3 and mac? Sry if im off topic i cant find out for the life of me. thanks!

Anyone actually testing with HD 4000? I bought this afternoon a brand new sealed physical copy of the game for 8 eur on ebay, but i just found out that the video chipset Intel HD4000 is "not raccomended".

This means that i won't be able AT ALL to start the game, or just that i'll have to run with reduced videospecs and/or reduced resolulution? Apart from the HD 4000, my sistem is a Late 2012 Mac Mini with the Quad Core i7 2.3ghz processor and 16gb of ram (so one entire gb will be addressed to the gpu), and my disc is a top spec SSD drive.

Will i be able to run the game, as the Mac, apart from the gpu chipset, is pretty damn fast? I'm reading that people with HD 3000 and/or i3/i5 dual core processors, with half of my ghz, can run it decently, so i really hope as i rely on a Quad i7 that i didn't waste my money... :(

If your Mac has a quad-core i7 and HD4000, it should have a separate discreet GPU (NVIDIA GeForce GT650M). The first Macs to have quad-core and no dGPU were the Haswell 2013-2014 models with the Intel Iris Pro chipset.

Turn everything down and run at default resolutions and you should be fine :apple:
