So, it's officially May now and I've not seen any new word on COD4 for the Mac.

Yes, I have the ability to bootcamp into XP and play it on Windows, but I'd rather not. Call it laziness, but I'd rather have the native COD4 goodness on the Leopard side of the house.

Please post any updated info on the Mac release of COD4 here. :D

You do realize that it is only May 1st. I'm guessing they will release it at the end of May just like every other company who releases a product and doesn't give an exact date.

I'm just waiting on the specs to release

I'm with you Wild Bill, I want specifics! I've been on both versions of COD and was hoping they would release this for Mac, unfortunately I'm still running a 1.8 MacPro, which is getting a little long in the tooth, but it still runs nice. I know this machine probably will not be up to the task of running COD4, but I still want to know the specs to see what type of upgrade I need. New MacPro!

Excuse me for asking, but when did Apple make a 1.8ghz Mac Pro? I thought the slowest was 2.0

I opted for the Bootcamp method. In comparing Call of Duty 2 in XP and OSX, I have both Mac and Windows copies, it's clear that COD2 is by far faster in XP. With my 2.2 MBP I get horrendous lag on the Mac side in 800x600 with most options off. On the XP side I'm running 1028x764 with all options maxed, AA at 2x with no slowdown.

Let us hope this conversion is a little smother.

I have COD2 with everything turned all the way up at 1680x1050 on Leopard and it runs just fine. I don't know how to check framerates, but it isn't laggy. Do you have all the patches for it and the Leopard Graphics update?

I have ran both the OSX and XP counterpart at max settings and can't tell a difference.:apple:

COD2 works fine on Leopard for me too with no lag (or if I have lag it is because of my internet connection not my MacBook Pro).

I am guessing COD4 will come out for Leopard at the beginning of June - just a hunch though xD

Nobody actually knows what the release date is.

Aspyr is being anal like they usually are with release dates. For example, their page on Quake Wars said that System Reqs would be finalized 4-6 weeks before shipping.

Well guess what, they never said anything about them until the day the game shipped.
They were also really, really late shipping quake wars. 2-3 months I think. And the whole time, they never said anything... no acknowledgment that they were way behind schedule or anything.

I really want to support the mac gaming market, so I'm waiting for COD4 for mac. I'm using a Rev A iMac (2 years old). I've got the 256 meg Radeon X1600, but that's a little dated now. I'm thinking I'll have to run COD4 for mac with all settings turned down. I'd like to see some reviews once it's actually released though. If otherwise with Rev A iMacs can get smooth performance even with everything turned down, I'll probably buy the game. Otherwise, I'll get the PC version.

can anyone tell me if the nvidia 8600 256 mac book pro wide screen is good. i dont want to get bootcamp on this brand new Mac if the best game is about to come out for Mac ! Please tell me how stolked i should be for gameplay on my laptop i got 3 days ago im not to smart when it comes to all the setting and cards but im pretty sure i hit a gold mine iwht this lap top in the gaming arena?! thank you collins college for hookin me up with da MAC MAnnnnn

COD4 release date

Amazon originally had a late June date, then changed to the July date. Which to me would indicate them having some knowledge of the actual date. Also Amazon changed it's price from 49.99 to 54.99, However GoGamer.com still has a release date of June 2 and a price of 49.99 reduced to 42.90 preorder. Let's hope GoGamer is right...

I just received an email from Aspyr Media after inquiring about the release date:

Joe,

At this time we do not have an offical release date for COD 4. We are still shooting for the late May release.

Have a nice day,
Aspyr

Hopefully they get it done...

Playtime..

I have a dumb question.. if/when you boot up your Mac COD4 version and get online to play, are you playing against fellow Mac users ONLY, or alongside PC players as well? If only playing against Mac users, you run the risk of having few few opponents to shoot against, don't you? As the amount of PC users far outweigh the Mac community right now for that game.

Senor360, I'd like to second your dumb question (which, obviously, I don't think is dumb at all!).

Anyone know the answer?

My guess is that both PC and Mac will be able to play together, but it is just a guess.
Your point makes sense, and having only Mac-Mac would pretty much kill any multiplayer experience
