I can only imagine the pc and mac versions will be able to network together either online or through a LAN. Call of Duty 2 does it just fine, so I believe Call of Duty 4 should as well.:apple:

I have a dumb question.. if/when you boot up your Mac COD4 version and get online to play, are you playing against fellow Mac users ONLY, or alongside PC players as well? If only playing against Mac users, you run the risk of having few few opponents to shoot against, don't you? As the amount of PC users far outweigh the Mac community right now for that game.

It's not a dumb question at all. Some ported games ARE lame enough that they only let you play against other mac users, and then the multiplayer usually sucks to do a shortage of players.

However, since we're dealing with a) Aspyr, b) a game this popular, and c) a game that REQUIRES a large amount of people, it will be cross-platform.

But there is still one unavoidable issue... and this WILL be an issue because it's ALWAYS an issue with ported mac games that have cross-platform multiplayer.
Unless you're dealing with the almighty Blizzard Entertainment... patches will be released for PC before mac.

What that means is that until the mac patch is released, you would be able to play only against other mac users and the occasional PC user who chose not to update.
Unfortunately, sometimes it can take a really long time for the mac patch to get out... as in over 2 months in bad cases (I believe that's about how long we had to wait with Quake 4... and by that time I'd lost interest in it).

I'm still getting the mac version though... after somebody else tells me how it runs on the first gen intel iMacs :)

2 months? try 2 years!!!

I think you will be able to play with both pc and mac, because in COD2 you can play with both. I have a cousin that has a mac and I had a pc, we both played online on COD2... So thats why I guess in COD4 too

i think il go to the apple store and have them install bootcamp or w.e it is is that free ??? do yo ahve to pay for the bootcamp thing to get windows on there if i ahve the cd for xp? idk shud i wait for cod4 for mac and jsut keep my mac str8 mac .. its already may 9th when r they gonna release the mac version of cod 4 . anyways WHATS A GOOD MAC GAME ALREADY OUT THATS GOOD MULTIPLAYER bf2142 or w.e is that any fun are there alot of player online? i usualy only play games for the muliplayer experience so do alota mac players play taht on the interent or do pc players and amc players play on the same servers or just is it mac for mac and pc for pc only?

I left a similar post on another thread earlier...

I have run both COD2 on the MAC and in XP.

XP is defintely better with COD2. Faster, smoother, better frame rate.

I am not saying it doesnt run great on MAC - its just not as nice - i get many more kills and just seem to be faster in game, when i am playing on the XP side.

I was not willing to wait for COD4 on the MAC. After all the waiting i did for this box, and patches for the capslock key issue on the wireless keyboard, i just couldnt wait to see if this ever game out. I got COD for the XP on March 29th,adn have been playing it religously. It runs so nice on full settings, that i cant imagine why i would want to run in in OSX? I am going to try to get a copy of it to see how it runs, but by then youll all probalby have it...

Waiting the 35 second for the computer to restart into XP is not a big issues with me. I think the only downside is the task manager swithing issues that windows has always had (ie switching into another program while playing - something the MAC is great at.

BTW - COD4 is amazing to play, but the story is a little convoluted and weak.

also - you play all players on PC or MAC (not sure about consoles - i don't think so) in COD2 - hopefully that will continue. Its great to play against my friends who all have PCs (yep - everyone of them).

i'm sure that the windows version WILL run faster.

At the same time though, I want to support mac gaming... I'm sort of torn about COD4 though. I have a first generation 20" intel iMac, so it's not like it's a top of the line mac pro that will be able to play COD4 at highest settings. I'll probably have to turn most things down, especially for the mac version.

If a game is Windows only then I have no qualms about buying it, but if a mac version is available (or soon going to be available) then I'd rather wait.

The exception to that is Ciderized games. Transgaming totally blew any confidence that I had in them with dismal support for BF 2142 (which ran poorly on many macs). So if a game is released for both platforms but was ported with Cider, I'll certainly buy the WINDOWS version.

And I might even end up getting the Windows version of COD4 ANYWAY if others report that the mac version doesn't run well on first gen. iMacs.

yeah, the support on BF2142 has been absolutely horrible. i'm still not understanding how they could have possibly thought that the game was ready to hit shelves. what an inferior product.

COD4 MAC/PC online gaming

I own Mac and PC's and am an avid online COD2/4 gamer. If COD4 comes out for MAC it will play on the same servers as the PC's. COD2 currently plays on all internet servers for MAC/PC along side each other. There are not seperate servers for MAC's, so no worries!:)

so is bf2422 or w.e the futuristic one fun to play? is the multiplayer as sik as battlefield 2:confused: is battlefield 2 out for Mac the modern one not 4 but the other one with apaches and jets and tanks and *****??

It would suck if the patch scenario happened, but just how bad would it be playing against Mac only users :D

BF2142 is an awesome game. Yes, it's the futuristic one.
You could probably get it relatively cheap now, but DEFINITELY buy the PC version. The mac version sucks and they're never going to release the expansion pack for mac anyway, so if you want the expansion you need the PC version anyway.

And Douglas... playing against only other mac users isn't bad in itself. The problem is that there aren't enough people : \

Before I had the pc version of bf2142 I remember waiting for the mac patch. There were very few servers left running the old version. It sucked.

Is it fair for players who use consoles to pit against a PC or mac user
on COD4?

Where did you get that from Consoles Vs PC/Mac?

Consoles have their own servers PSN & Live can't play each other also. so I highly doubt that Consoles can play PC/mac users.

But it would be fair.

A guy on another forum opined that an app that would allow PC/Mac users to play on the same servers as console owners was in the works. Highly unlikely I think as MS makes a tidy income from their XBox Live service.

re BF2141 - I love the Mac version. It's a great game and I'm really looking forward to playing on the two new maps when the 1.50 update is finalised.

Updates/patches..

I have COD4 for my 360, and not too long ago downloaded the map pack after it was released. Yes, paying $10 for 4 levels isn't smart, but I love me some Ravine level. :)

Anywho.. if/when new maps are released for the PC version, I wonder how long it takes them to do the same for the MAC?

I played the new CoD4 maps on my bros 360 and they are excellent, really well-designed.

Yeah lets hope that the computer versions receive the same level of support. I'll just have to wait until July before I can play.

Looking at the spec for the PC version, I'm a little concerned that my 2Ghz iMac won't be able to handle it
