When I went to school, Ramapo College in New Jersey, we had 2 bedroom apartments with one bath and kitchen. Lived there for 3 years with usually 3 other people. I miss those years.

Man! I'll be sharing a room with 2 other dudes this upcoming year in an apartment while the fourth has his own loft.

Meh, what are you going to do when you're on a budget and can't find anyone else to room with?

I miss the dorm days of having a hall mate place their moldy pasta in the hallway.

Or the drunk stairwell pisser

I live in my own apartment now.

During my freshman year, the basement floor always smelled like moldy pizza and stale beer. And we didn't just have the stairwell pisser, we had the stairwell arsonist. We had some idiot set their garbage on fire in the stairwell. The funny part is that we had been through 4-5 false fire alarms before that, so we all griping and barely moving when the alarm went off about 2 AM that morning. Then the RA came running down the hall with a fire extinguisher. When he threw open the stairwell door and smoke came rolling out, we started moving a bit quicker.

I'm lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you feel) to have never lived in a dorm. There were 1 bedroom apartments across the street from the University that were only a bit more than the dorms, if you calculated out the cost per year.

Just found a neat little site with some sweet dorm rooms and ideas. You can send in pictures of your room to get featured too. I might do that if I ever get around to taking some better photos.

Someone do it and see if you can get featured  It seems relatively new, so I bet you could.

Wasn't much of an interior decorator when I was in college. Hopefully you get a roommate whose taste matches yours.

I went to a small school is west TN and the dorms there were actually a big factor in my choice. They are set up similar to apartments with four students living together. Each student has their own private bedroom with a shared living room, kitchen, and bathroom. I liked the privacy and convenience of only sharing a space with a few other people and not having to deal with "common" restrooms and kitchen areas. A few years ago the campus was hit by a tornado and they had to rebuild almost all of the dorms. In the rebuild they modernized everything and added a washer and dryer to each unit. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Here's some pics on flickr that I found.

this was mine in 2002. Had the necessary Belushi poster... and little else... well 80's reversible comforter ofcourse. Also 4 of me. This was freshman year and a picture my neighbor made of me for one of his classes. I'm pretty sure this was the oldest dorm on campus.
