There have been many controversies around AliensCM.
Eurogamer claim the development wasn't done by GearBox, but outsourced.
Still when GearBox releases it under their label, it's still their responsibility.

Outsourcing is often done, and often with success, even games like Counter Strike GO was outsourced, and not made by Valve, but still a premium product that Valve could put their name on without suffering at all.
