I might be a little late to the party but this thread was near the top on my google search.

1) I handbraked 2 files into .m4v
2) Opened the first segment in Quicktime Player Version 10.1 (501.5)
3) EDIT > ADD CLIP to END....
4) navigate to segment 2, choose
5) close the window and you will be asked where to save it.

my file is still exporting... i assume this technique won't degrade the quality. but, its pretty simple.

I am in QuickTime not pro, but there is no option for that at all. The 3-hour extended edition of Avatar is split onto two disks, and I would like to merge them, but In the meantime, I wrote on the covers in Pages, "Part 1" and "Part 2" so I can navigate very quickly to the second part. Still, it is one movie, I would like to make it seem that way.:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

If you are going to use Quicktime for this, it has to be Pro. There are other tools that are better to accomplish this: MP4Tools.

well after waisting a lot of time today I will be keeping Pearl Harbor in two rips.

QT won't do it on 10.1 Its apparently broken or something as it has an export feature for iPod/apple tv

MKVtools or MP4tools won't do it. I get errors.

mpeg streamclip does it but won't keep the 5.1 dolby.

So I'm keeping both files separate until something better comes along.

I realize this post is many months old, but I figured I'd give some advice for anyone else that stumbles across this necropost.

Using MKVTools worked for me to join two parts of Avatar together. I don't know how to do this with MP4's, just the MKV's.

1) Open MKVTools
2) Add part 1 of whatever video clip you are trying to join
3) Select video clip and click "append"
4) Add part 2
5) Viola

Do these solutions export as .m4v? I don't want mp4...
I'm sorry, the OP mentioned using handbrake which generates mp4's. So I though you were trying to do the same. What file type are you starting with and wanting to end up with?

I'm using 10.1 (501.22) and all I receive is a message stating this process doesn't support this media type (m4v). Something changed. Knew it was too good to be true. No biggie, I'll just have two parts to the movie on the apple tv.

doing this for Goodfellas.....QT is exporting it to *.mov ...

...

...

3 hours to go, need to see what happens to the quality of the flick, and if I can then convert the *.mov to *.m4v.

...

...

back to teh googles

EDIT: for giggles and stuff, I went back and canceled the 'export.' Re-did it so that QT 10.1 (on SWMBO's old MBP w/Lion) didn't hide the extension type, and the iPhone 'Save As' was *.m4v and the 480p 'Save As' was *.mov. Doing both and will see which is better for me.

I'll report back later

Green vertical line on right side of video, and only stereo track, no 6 channel

I'm still investigating

iVI (pronounced 'ivy'), available in the Mac App Store, can do this. And it adds meta data as well ;)

Just add the first file, open its options (double click on it), Video Joining, add the second (and third, and fourth...) file and hit convert.

I will try that...now actually. The Godfather is a two part movie too.
