Come on guys, replace the awful trash can!

Is it that you want to replace Yosemite's icons with customized ones?

Not quite. I'm on Mavericks and use LiteIcon to replace icons with customized ones. And was wondering when Yosemite is released and I install it, will there be any problems in regards to customized icons? Or will they change to the Yosemite icons with no issues whatsoever.

Here's a desktop photo of the Star Trek theme on the PowerMac G5.

Looks amazing! I've never seen Star Trek by the way. I'm a big Star Wars fan :p

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that your customized ones will be overwritten by OS X when you upgrade.

I'm a fan of both, despite being told that I can only like one or the other! ;)

Yes that's what I was wondering. I know that installing a new OS will overwrite the customized icons. I was just worried that customized icons will cause a problem with the overwriting process. Thanks for the reply!

That's true you can't be a fan of both! It's either SW or ST!

JK BTW :p

Yeah, I don't think OS X will have any issue in overwriting them.

See, now you're doing it too! :p What am I to do?

Haha. Of course you can be a fan of both. It's reasonable since both have a lot of similarities. But Star Wars is better :)

I can't say that I've ever given thought to my opinion of which I like better...

I like the trash can, I just wish it would be a little darker. They whiteness of it hurts my eyes if I look directly at it.

So what exactly do people dislike about the new trashcan? What was better about the old trashcan?

I actually like the new trash can, I don't understand all the hate about it.

You don't need to understand all the hate about the new trash can.

But you do need to understand all the love about the System 7 grouch trash can.

Indeed. Say what you want about the use of real textures in the previous design direction, but those looked fantastic and the OS X icons had so much detail & depth in them. Great for new comers too, since they resembled real life.

Now the design team consists of a bunch of 10 year olds. (Game Center icon makes me want to puke)

You think the item on the left is more representative of a real world trashcan/garbage basket than the item on the right? The one on the left is more ornate for sure but I doubt anyone would have a difficult time understanding what the one on the right represents.

As far as resembling real life, what did faux stitched leather have to do with finding friends?

I do agree with you though on Game Center. I don't know why Apple doesn't just kill off Game Center all together.

Mmmm hyperbole.

But that aside, the Yosemite looks a lot like this waste bin. From - http://www.containerstore.com/shop/trashRecycling/wastebaskets?productId=10013285

Because millions of people use it and it's integrated into most iOS apps. Some day it may come to prosperity on OSX too but removing it benefits no-one.
