I equipped my iPad Air with a Logitech Combo Touch keyboard. Yes, the comfort of typing long texts has improved, but I still do it so rarely that I use the iPad like an iPad, i.e. without a keyboard.

However, the Logitech case, even with the keyboard disconnected, is so heavy that the iPad has become inconvenient to use in the role it was created for. In my particular case, it did not become a laptop but stopped being an iPad;)

I'm still using my regular slim portfolio case and paired it with just the Logitech Combo Touch keyboard itself. Keyboard even works with the 2nd gen 12.9 (and I assume 1st gen as well). :D

I struggle to want the iPad to have more "features" because I've always appreciated the simplicity. Easy for someone with no computer knowledge to use, nothing to maintain, app store so no random downloads of apps on the internet.

But then as features get added like multitasking and gestures, soon it's easy to do something you didn't realize was possible, but it messed up your simple device. Personally I turn off multi tasking gestures because when I'm in safari, I like that I can swipe left and right to navigate and have no reason to need another app open at the same time.

For the record, I'm 32 and a heavy mac user and I'd much prefer a macbook on my lap on the couch than an iPad.

On the couch, I definitely preferred the iPad mini. Even with the keyboard disconnected, the Air is heavy and less comfortable, and the keyboard doesn't make it a laptop ....

I do the same (the logitech case is stupidly heavy and hard to remove, so I have never used it and instead use a third party case) and yes, it does work with the first gen, but I have an issue with the 12.9. When you select text, holding one finger down and using the other to select, as soon as you lift the second finger it loses the selection. Strangely this does not happen with the 9.7.... Anyway because of this I only use the keyboard with the 10.5 and keep using the original smart keyboard with the 12.9 plus mouse....
