Compact MacBook Pro Power Adapter

...dang. Why Apple? Why must you make things smaller mid-cycle? You make me feel so inadequate. Just sorta kidding, I'll have to buy that though, reduce the space in my bag.
That looks identical to the one I got with my MBP last week. I was wondering what thos two things were that lifetd up, the picture shows you wrap the cord around them when traveling or storing.

For people who order power adapters, did the original fail or did you just purchase an extra one? Does AppleCare warranty the power adapter also if it fails?
If it fails and was not damaged by you, then yes it is covered by the warranty.
Well, I've been thinking about getting an extra one for traveling and having at school. This may be just the reason to finally order an extra one!
This is just an extra one for me, so I can leave the bigger one at home and travel with 2 ounces less weight. Of course I could just cut down on calories, but that's not as cool. right? RIGHT?
P.S., I'd expect AppleCare to take care of an adapter if it breaks due to normal use; I had dell adapters start fraying and sparking after only 3 or 4 months of normal use.
Pretty cool stuff. I've got to say, it always kind of surprises me that Apple doesn't get more praise for their power adapters. Apple just seems to be light years ahead of the competition when it comes to power adapters; my Sony Vaio came with a fairly bulky power adapter with big thick cords (with some velcro strips to tie them up) and it was always a tangled mess and a pain in the ass to carry around. It's like, hey, great Sony, you make a really slick thin 3.7 pounds SZ laptop, but you have this ugly unwieldy brick to go along with it.
By comparison, I just love how the MB and MBP power adapters are so compact, have the prongs built into the brick itself, and have fold-out wings to wrap the comparitively thin cable around.
It seems like such a small thing, but when you do think of it as an important part of what you carry with you when you have a laptop, it really amazes me that other companies don't seem to try and follow Apple on this front.

My bet is they are the same form factor as the MB adapters, albeit with a different wattage. On the subject, it's always mildly shocking that a company as focused on design and simplicity, such as Apple, has different SKUs for the adapters of two latest laptop lines. I'd be impressed, but only because it's out of the norm, to have a universal adapter for any (intel based) mac portable; heck, make it work with the TV and Mini and I'd be really impressed.
I suspect the problem might be that the different power requirements for the MacBook and MacBook Pro necessitate separate power adapters. It would probably be an unnecessary extra expense to ship an MBP adapter with the MacBook (and until just now, it also would have meant shipping a larger adapter for no real benefit to the user).
The new power adapter looks like it has a more durable rubber thingy where the magnetic connector is. I just purchased my MBP last month after the SR update. Why in the hell wouldn't Apple come out with this update then!?
I think you're right; It certainly is the problem requiring different wattages. However, with foresight, wouldn't you design your two flagship portables to have an interchangeable set of accessories, including power?
It's no relish off my hot dog, but I think it's those little things that are cool.
