I had problems utilising my S7e in day to day scenarios. Typing was troublesome, accidental touches or inadvertent touches where part of your had presses on the edge causing unresponsivness was another and finally just holding the device in landscape watching a movie or such was a hand gymnastic pain.

I switched from S7e to S7 and whilst the e is aesthetically better, the standard 7 is more pleasurable to actually use as I don't have any of the issues in usability that I did with the edge.
Ah, so I AM holding it wrong. I didn't realize that and was wondering why it seemed like the screen wasn't always registering a touch. It wasn't a problem on my Note7 so I neglected to adjust for the differences in the S7Edge m

I have the Samsung flip cover case (the one with a clear window) and I find folio type cases usually help me hold my phones without touching the screen. But I do sometimes hold the Edge display wrong. I didn't realize that would cause unresponsiveness. Now I know. :D Thanks!

In other news...Google support is dreadful. I asked them one simple question and in four business days all I got was a useless canned answer of a page full of links to my order that tells me not a thing about the question I asked.

Nice unbiased assessment. In my opinion the 2 areas where there are significant differences are the display and speed. While the 7 Plus will win in the speed department the S7E will win when it comes to display. This gap should narrow next year when the iPhone adopts OLED

As far as Touch goes,I do agree somewhat that iPhone touch feels more responsive but that may be the OS itself rather than the touchscreen

Nice writeup. Thanks. The battery on the 7Plus will be better because the screen resolution is only 1080P, while the Edge is Quad HD.
What are the specs on "Quad HD"? I ask because I can find no details as to what "Quad HD" means. I can tell you the iPhone 7+ has 401 pixels per inch, and the iPhone 7 has 326 psi.

A simple google search would give you the answer.

QHD is a resolution of 2560x1440

It's is 4x the resolution of 720p

Whilst the iPhone 6/7 plus has a PPi of 401

The S7 edge has a PPi of 534

However there is more involved than resolution and PPi. The technology behind the screens also governs sharpness and clarity. Search through some of my back posts and you should find complete explanations of how Sub Pixel Arrangement affects screens and the differences.

I forgot to add, 1080P is not a resolution per se, it actually refers to the scanning method use as in interlaced or progressive. Resolution actually refers to the pixels on the screens. Usually you will see it denoted as something like 1920x1080, or 1334x750. Lately, folks have started using pixels per inch, and I am really happy about it because you can easily judge the actual resolution between differing sizes. For example, 1920x1080 translates to 401ppi and 1334x750 translates to 326ppi. It allows you to more easily compare various size screens. The other thing in the display would be the brightness, usually denoted as something such as 511cd/m2. The third thing that will go into measuring a display is the color calibration. The color calibration will not affect the power the display uses, but it will affect how "real" the image appears. Both pixels and brightness will affect the power usage.

Thanks, I looked on the Samsung site with the tech specs and it only states, "Quad HD super AMOLED display, Galaxy S7 edge: Dual edge 5.5" Galaxy S7: 5.1"

And thanks for the offer. I may take a look back, but I do have a small understanding of what goes into the technology behind displays.

Great another let's compare a 7 month old phone to a just released iPhone. Geee.

Now when they compare S8 the iPhone fanboys will yell foul as their beloved iPhone is 6 months old.
I'm really curious as to why people go to Mac sites to denigrate the folks that like Apple products. Have you considered getting a life?

Thanks for the detailed comparison. I'm similar to you in that I have a Note 5 and iPhone 6s+ that I alternate and its hard. Each phone has their own positives and negatives. The main thing I like with the iPhone is sync ability to devices. If I didn't have a mac, I'd probably lean towards liking the Samsung more.

Well no

You judge these phones based on the year. Just because one is out 4-5 months later this is still each company’s flagship for 2016 doesn’t matter on when each are out. Just like the 2017 S8 will be next years flagship like when apple bring out the iphone 8 most likely. That’s what people should compare on

This is true especially as the note 7 which released almost at the same time as the iPhone 7 was virtually the same internally as the S7/edge. So the S7 edge is of 2016 flagship level.
