With that said, is cellphone photography a victim of its medium? Or am I just trying to justify dropping two grand on a Z7?
I think you should go ahead and bring a Z7 home. Although I would skip over it in favor of Z7II just for the SD card compatibility. I feel duped having purchased a pair of these odd XQD memory cards for my partner's Z6.
The amount of processing in recent iPhones has been bordering on "too much" as of late, but I have to admit, for some use cases it's actually really really good. I have moved to it full time and it's a compromise I'm willing to take. I think it's a matter of trends to some extent, but also it's a very actively developing field. I'm excited for the future
One issue I have with Z series is the limited selection of Z-mount lenses. Sure, you can get an adapter and all the F-mount lenses are yours, but it feels silly at this point to do that. Kind of like planning to lose a lot of weight and then going out and buying a fancy outfit in your current large size. Like, I'm just gonna have to go and buy it again
But that at least is understandable. What I don't understand is how come even in the updated second generation cameras they don't have a GPS module to automatically tag the photo locations. SnapBridge over Bluetooth is a crutch and although it is better than whatever Sony was doing in my field testing 2 years ago, stability of that app still has a lot to be desired. Every once in a while (once a week or more, if you shoot daily) it just won't connect to the camera and you have to fiddle with it, try to re-pair, or even just delete and re-install the app. Horrible user experience. How is that acceptable at this price point in 2021?
