Does this really work? Looks kinda "snake oily".

I also posted this higher up. I too was skeptical, especially on a non Asus MB, but it works like a champ.

I had seen some people say it changes the bios, but it is really changing a windows registry key. It would be interesting to backup the registry before and compare it to see what key.

It does install an icon in the system tray that will change when you plug something in to show it is working.

Try a program from Asus, AI Charger http://event.asus.com/mb/2010/ai_charger/ .

I installed it on my Dell precision 4600 laptop (AFAIK not an Asus motherboard) which would not charge the iPad 2 previosly and it works great now. Even charges my new 3rd generation iPad. It seems to say it is changing the registry (Windows 7) but I did not realize that ahead of time so I don't know what key it changes.

Just installed ai_charger on my PC with an ASUS Rampage III Extreme mobo. The iPad is charging through a front USB port as intended now. Thanks Sherifftruman.

Good to know guys! I really just wanted a solution to charge at work if need be, wasn't keen on shelling out $30 for another charger that I have to keep track of. I keep mine sitting next to my bed next to my iphone charger to plug it in at night or when I'm reading (thanks 5ft extension cable).

Same here. Learned something. I might give this software a try. Thanks Sheriff. And those who posted testimonials.

Guess I should buy an aux charger then...
Pretty sure my iPad Mini 4 charges like only 0.005% compared to adopter which charges 100% faster and its really really slow but most of the time the USB thing on laptops or desktop is only for synching. Unlike iPhone which can be charged via desktop (or the iPad nowadays can charge iPhone thru usb c) the iPad has like 10 times the size of battery.

Tablets like iPads really want 2amp chargers if they can get it otherwise they’ll charge REALLY slow. Most laptop USB ports won’t do much over an amp, unless of course we’re talking about USB C... but holey 2012 thread Batman! Lol. I remember installing that ASUS AI program on my Windows machines to get a little extra juice out of the USB ports to charge my devices faster. Memories...

Always interesting going through these older threads and seeing who is still here. :)
