also just went to apple today and tryed out the new macbooks. I didn't have a single problem with either the black or the white. Although i did not like the looks of the white MacBooks as much as the iBooks, im still probebly getting one because of the price. Also have to agree that the keyboard does take some getting used to, and i thought that the trackpad and button did too, but i think thats the same type as on the G4 powerbooks(im using a G3 iBook right now)

how were the screens? i might get an mbp now partly because i dont want a glossy screen. were they as bad as everybody is making them sound?

The glossy screen is not that bad, I do a lot of photo/web work and the screen doesn't impact that at all, don't let others tell you the screen is crap, because it's high quality.

This is my impression as well from reading first hand accounts and from Apple's website. :)

Oh the temptation to buy myself a new MacBook is so very, very tempting.... :)

Since the black casing is matte, would that make it less prone to scratches than the glossy white one?

Treat it like a baby, and you wont have those problems. I've used a many iBook G4s and theyre only prone to scratches if you mistreat them heavily. ie: Putting them in your backpack uncovered like a regular book.

I just got home with my White 2.0 one. I'm transfering all my stuff now, should take about 2 hrs. Kinda dissapointed with the 60 GB. After my transfer it says I'm gonna have room for about 250 Megs of stuff.

I'll post pics in the pic forum.

Sucks about the funky feeling keyboard. I've also been hearing that on some MB's the keys stick.... Guess I'll have to check them out in person. But what really bugs me is that, according to AppleInsider, the keyboard is a part of the MB's enclosure and that if the keyboard or key(s) get messed up you'll have to change the entire enclosure and trackpad too.

Maybe Apple will change or fix the keyboard problems with Rev. B or C.....

No keyboard problems yet. The keys to me fell very nice, the spacing isn't too bad, and the keys are very responsive.

I notice the buzz, every half minute or so it will "rev" up a little, not sure which drive it is.

I'll keep everyone updated. BTW, the screen is amazing!!

I was going to purchase one.. but, I'm going to hold off until the new intel chips come in before I purchase another mac.

I got an intel imac 20". this should handle my tasks until then ;)

I know if I buy a macbook or macbook pro now and they upgrade later I will want one.

You can get a matte screen as a BTO option.

I think theres an issue with the yonah chips. Hopefully, Merom arent as bad.

But man, i want one of those badly. Shame im not getting one till '07. Nothing stopping me from going to the Apple store to play around with one though. ;)

Not on the MacBook, only on the MBP.

The retail specialist for the Walden Store says that they can order them with the Matte screens.

I'm not verifying anything though, but I'm sure that they said it because I had a discussion with Mrs. amacgenius about the benefits of both.

Nope, I mean BUZZ - note this is only on the white display model, the black shows no BUZZ or WHINE according to myself and amacgenius.

Aren't they the same machine, minus the larger HDD. I'll be visiting my Apple Store soon, so I'll have to check em out.

Just about, I'm guessing it has nothing to do with color though, or clock speed for that matter. I really truly think it's a matter of how they were made.

I had a chat with an employee about the matte vs. glossy screen, and she did tell me explicitly that you can get a MacBook with a Matte screen as well as a MacBook Pro with a glossy screen.

Reading the whole thread makes me really, really want to sell my iBook and pony up the rest of the money to get a Macbook, but I think it's more important for me to save for that Intel PowerMac :D

Did they say how? I would like a matte screen if possible. But I haven't heard anything about them on the MB.

Um, how exactly?
