My Studio currently is connected over HDMI to my Samsung M8 display. I just got a Blu-ray player that I want to connect to the M8, which has only one HDMI (mini) port. Can I use a Thunderbolt cable to connect the M8 and free up the HDMI?

Yes, that should work. I had the left USB C port on my Samsung M8 connected to a Thunderbolt port on my Mac Studio. Although I have since sold my Mac Studio and bought a NOS iMac 27 5K, much better picture.
