Honestly if all you're going to be doing is using a word processor to write stuff then there really is no point in getting 4GB of RAM. 2GB will be more than enough. I have the most basic 11.6" model ($999, $1049 CAD) and I can even play games like CoD4 in Windows 7 just fine. Seriously people overestimate the importance of RAM way too often.

Can you really run that flawless?
That's impressive, thanks for the info!
Really secured my thoughts on purchasing the 2GB model.

Thank you!!

Full Blown MBA

I went in for a 11.6 inch 1.6 Ghz 4GB RAM MBA. Do not regret paying the additional bucks as definitely worth it. The laptop is seemingly more faster than my MBP:)

Wow, a single post convinced you. You're easy.:D

I sure hope you don't find new things to use your MBA for.

Just got my 11inch MBA and I believe it is a truly incredible machine. I keep picking it up to marvel at how light and portable it is. This is a wonderful take-everywhere machine. If that's what you are looking for I'd say go for it.

Down the road, if you find the screen limiting, you can augment it with an external monitor for not too much money. The only thing to consider is if you intend to carry lots of photos or music on it, in which case even a 128MB hard drive can be limiting.

As for RAM, I think 2GB is fine for writing. I went with the 4GB model because a large part of its job will be to handle photos when I am traveling.

Thanks a lot for the info!

Would anyone like to let me know how the heating/cooling is of the device? Do the fans rev at all? And in what situations?

The fan can rev up but it takes a lot to do so. The fan on the 13" is easier to get spinning fast. I don't have flash installed, so the only time I've gotten the fan to spin up was during the initial installation and restore of the user accounts (spotlight indexing runs full blast after that) and when running hardware tests. The fan is running at 2000rpm all the time, but you have to put your ear under the machine next to the outlet to hear it in a quiet room. It's basically silent 99% of the time. Running H.264 videos hasn't caused me any issues.
