I see everyone here is chiming in in favour of the mechanical watches.

I’ll just share a few things in favour of the Apple Watch just in case in your previous experiences you didn’t try them out.

Apple Wallet - this has become my life saver. Without having to carry a wallet and without having to rely on my iPhone is so much better. The watch can do it all starting from regular payment to checking in with your boarding pass to a myriad of other things.

Messages and calls - this is another feature I use on a regular basis without having to get my phone out.

Workout - I use the workout app as well which you said you don’t want to use anymore but that’s cool.

Notifications - helps me throughout the day to keep an eye on things that I need to either attend to or ignore without having to check my phone or Mac.

Unlocking Mac - everyday this is being used so many times, I don’t even count them.

Timer - starting from cooking to taking breaks during workout. This is so easy and convenient.

Siri - super easy to get easy tasks done and even dictate messages.

Various watch faces - so much info just at a glance. Just unbeatable if you set it up properly as per your needs.

Apple Watch has become a part of my life now. If you don’t put it through it proper pace you won’t realise what you’re missing out on. By the sound of it I felt like you didn’t really try it out as a regular item in your life or may have not used all the features.

Some great points.

Thank you for taking the time (pun intended.)

I'm not ;-)
Whilst I enjoyed collecting them for some years, as soon as I bought my first AW (after resisting until 2019), the mechanicals didn't do enough for me anymore.
The biggest Apple Watch advantage for me, is the health aspect. It's great to see, for example, your resting heart rate going lower, as well as your weight, over time when you exercise regularly - and closing your rings is damn addictive ^^

The watch bug of course didn't just leave me, so now started I collect (of course genuine) straps and in the meantime I own three Apple Watches :p

So Cartier has (very slightly) increased the price of all of their products.

Thus, I decided to pull out of the deal.

I’m now looking forward to buying an Apple Watch 7, as soon as they launch.

I’m not buying a Series 6 at this stage.

Huuuuuuuge difference in price, and if it gets scathed, I couldn’t give a t*ss.

Just enjoy it, kind of thing.

I have clinical OCD, so know I’d be so worried over the Cartier that I’d probably never even wear it!

Thank you for all of your input.

PS: Looking forward to this supposed redesign.

Will do, buddy.

I’ve been watching lots of AW & watchOS videos.

I’d love to have bought one today, but there’s no way I’d not wait for the next gen in just a couple of months.

How is your Apple Watch? Do you think you could live without it, now?

I do not have one so I am not in a position to answer your question.

Well, I‘m not him… but I surely couldn’t. This is probably why I have three of them and my band collection is ever growing ;-)
Will you be buying the Series 7?

Probably a silly question, as it’s meant to have a redesign.

I can see collecting bands being quite an addiction, and allows you to keep things “fresh.”

What’s your favourite band thus far, and why?

I probably will get the S7, unless there‘s absolutely nothing really interesting about it. The redesign is still a rumor and I guess we‘ll see.

My favorite band type is the braided solo loop, it’s extremely comfy and looks awesome if you ask me.

At the second spot I’d put the Sport Band, very versatile, lots of colors and easily cleaned if needed.

These are my two favorites bands at the moment. The Ultra Violet Sport Band is also quite hard to get and therefore is kind of a unicorn to me and I‘m happy that I found one and also got it for a reasonable price :)

They look very nice.

I see you have a SS one, there. I’m thinking of going with aluminium for my first one?

I know I wear the smaller size because as I stated before, I’ve returned two before. However, I fully intend to keep the next one. I can be very impulsive.

I thought the sports band was a set price? I’m assuming you got it from Amazon, or such?

I imagine the braided solo loop to be extremely comfortable, so maybe I should pop into an Apple Store beforehand to find out my size? I think it would be a band that I’d go for with my “first” Apple Watch.

Do they stretch, though? This would be a concern? And they are quite pricey at circa £100?

I had the sports band on the watches I returned. I agree, very versatile and durable.

Would you recommend SS over aluminium? I’d definitely not go with a dark coloured case, or a red one. I like light colours, my favourite colour being white. My iPhone is white, and I always go for silver iPads & MBPs.

That's what I did too. My first one (after a long denial because I really really prefered mechanicals) was a silver aluminum S4. I finally (after another Alu S6 in Space Gray) gave in to the urge and got myself a SS gold S6 as well and then sold off the Aluminum Watches... because well, the SS versions look and feel so much better to me, plus the sapphire crystal doesn't scratch as easily.

Yes they are all the same price as long as they are available from Apple... but they have seasonal specials, limited editions and such. So these aren't available anymore and there is a collector's market for nuts like me. The Ultra Violet for example, I have seen for over €200 new in box on eBay because it's pretty rare and Apple doesn't do that color anymore.... I found mine on eBay.

You should definitely go to a store and try the different sizes, yep.

They stretch a bit - not much though. But when you wash them they'll shrink back, so no real harm there.

My personal preference is SS... hands down. I prefer the dark case colors and really love my golden S6. Right now I have an S4 SBSS, S5 Alu LTE and S6 SSG and I wear them in rotation, the S6 gets the most wrist-time though.

Thanks for taking the time to provide such a detailed response.

So you can wash the braided solo loop? In a washing machine? If so, on which setting do you use and do you was it by itself?

Seeing as I was going to spend over 5.5k on a Certier, I may go for a SS model (silver, of course!) However, as stated before, I may just opt for an aluminium one, first time around. Then I can “venture out.”

You seem to be addicted to these things! Is it the Apple Watch in particular that you’re (excuse the wording) obsessed with, or is it all things Apple related, or tech in general.

You certainly seem to love the watch, so I really mustn’t have given it a fair chance the last time I bought them? Being fair, though, the second one had a defect (hissing sound when making or receiving phone calls) so it had to go back. Then I just gave up.

That takes me back to just buying a regular S7 in aluminium, with a sport band or the velcro strap, and seeing if it grows on me.

Thanks again. You have been most helpful.

You're welcome :)

It's fabric and other people did it without any issues. I didn't have to wash my braided loops yet, but I assume that it'll be about the same procedure like with the Sport Loops (the ones with the velcro). Put it in a small clothing bag or in a trouser pocket and wash it with 30 degrees. Didn't have any problems so far.

Well.... I'm interested in all kinds of tech and I love my Apple products because of the quality in general - but it's not that I would call myself obsessed.
But I am a bit of a watch nerd and I collected mechanicals for some years before I bought my first Apple Watch in 2019, so it's watches where I would maybe call myself addicted.

You’ve been most helpful, and I cannot thank you enough!

Actually, Apple should be offering you commission because you’ve just gained them a sale!

So, to question you further (if you don’t mind!):

Would you go for SS or aluminium for your first AW?

Would you go for the ”rubber” sport band, or the velcro one?

I’m definitely going for the 40mm, as I know that’s my size … no help required there! What size do you wear, out of curiosity?

What do you MOST like about the AW?

What features of the AW (or a smart watch, in general) do you find most useful, or that you use the most?

Lastly, what non Apple apps do you find most useful?

And THANKS again! :)

I fully agree :p

If you're unsure if a Smart Watch in general is your thing, to test the water... Alu is probably the more economic choice. So probably yes.

I would go for the Fluoroelastomer ;-) band, but that's my subjective view. I like the velcro too, but mainly for sports.

44mm as I always preferred larger (not Breitling for Bentley large) watches around 40+ mm. With the Apple Watch I found that the 44mm fits my wrist quite nicely.

What do you MOST like about the AW?
That it's a perfect companion with the iPhone and integrates seamlessly.

Health tracking for me, but Apple Pay is also heavily used in my case - just love it.

Lastly, what non Apple apps do you find most useful?
Shazam (which is now Apple), AutoSleep and HeartWatch

Thanks for everything, buddy.

By the way, the SS really does look nice in that image.

I love Apple Pay on my iPhone (it’s the only method of pay I actually use, and has been well before the pandemic) so I assume using the AW is even more easier & convenient?

And you had me: I had to Google Fluoroelastomer!

Yes, that size looks good on you. I found it just too big for my little wrist, so the 40mm was the one to go for. At least I know what size to order, when the S7 releases.

I have tinnitus, so if there was a Relax Melodies AW app (or similar) that would be heavenly. Having white noise coming from my wrist, that close to my ears, would be really useful.

Thanks again for everything … enjoy your watches, my friend!

PS: Wonder how long it’ll be, before the AW includes a camera for FaceTime??

No problem, happy to help ;-)

Apple Pay on the watch is as easy as pushing the side button twice and then you're ready to pay.

I hope you'll update us with your experience after you bought your S7 :)

Certainly will do, and thanks again.

PS: I don’t reckon you’ll be able to resist the S7, yourself :).

If you fear damaging or scratching the Cartier to the point where you wouldn't enjoy wearing it, I'd say it's better not to buy one. This is the same reason I couldn't go over $1000 range with my mechanicals. That is the maximum I can afford to loose if I'd damage a watch. Plus that having workhorse movements (ETA, Sellita, Seiko) helps when the time for service comes.

One thing which could enhance your experience with the AW is getting the SS model. It does look better, closer to a traditional watch and you have the benefit of the sapphire crystal. But you'd have to be comfortable throwing it away after 4 years, as the battery would deteriorate beyond the point of usability.

Thanks for the reply.

And you’re right: My OCD would prevent me from enjoying it, as I’d be constantly worried about it getting damaged.

Think I may go for the SS AW S7, as that material does look better (the silver one, in my opinion.)

If I get 4 years use out of it, I’d be happy for that amount of money.

Do you think you will buy the S7 yourself? If so, will it be in SS?

Now just have to decide which band to order it with? I wonder if they’ll bring new bands out with the S7?

Which is your fave?

What do you think of the new design mock-ups?

Smaller bezels would be nice.
I have to say, the mockups look quite nice, I could definitely live with that - as long as the existing bands will fit of course.

My favorite is definitely the SSG, but I really like the space black steel case too. Aluminum is nice but I mostly wear the Alu S5 when I work out.
I had a plain SS watch too (S2, bought it to see how I would like it) but for some reason I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought.
