I don't think in terms of "files" anymore. I think of which app I need.
Perfectly fair. I find that too restricting and cumbersome and unfortunately o can get the job done much faster on either a desktop (most often my choice) or android (my choice when the latter isn't available).

On a basic level I feel like I'm felinquishing control, regardless, since if it's not in the App Store (given the green light by Apple) I'm just not doing it. I work in the coronary medical field and there are certain applications we use for work that are simply not compatible with how apple does things (in iOS).

Anyway, your statement about how you think is exactly Apple's vision, for better or for worse. And again, it's not wrong. But I don't think those who think differently than you are wrong either.

I have a mac considering an ipad pro but I love the new Samsung with its always on display and stuff I'm due for an upgrade soon and I'm torn between getting the note 7 or the iPhone 7 I just can't decide I love apple I love how it all links in with each other yet the notes look amazing one thing which scares me is the resale value on the note I sell my iPhone every year to get the latest iphone I don't know if I could afford to do that with samsung as they update their line every 6 months cause they have 2 series the s series and the note series with apple it's a soild 12 months

What should I do? I love apple so much lol but the iPhone sounds like it's gonna be a weak upgrade this year is anyone else disappointed?

You're trying to decide between products that haven't even been announced? o_O

I'd say wait to see what's announced first to know what features each phone has before making a choice based purely on speculation and rumors...

I have several Macs (only one Intel Mac) and one iPad Air 2.

I have an iPhone 6s+ and I have zero plans to get an iPhone 7 or a Samsung whatchamacallit.

Apple may link things in (Apple ecosystem) but I'm not a part of that since Apple no longer supports PowerPC Mac and MBPs of 2006 and Snow Leopard vintage.

I don't sell my devices, I keep them so I have no interest in resale value.

What should you do?

Sell all your devices, cash in everything and buy an island somewhere where you don't need any tech at all.

I'm NOT disappointed by this year's upgrade because 1) I'm NOT upgrading and 2) It hasn't been RELEASED yet!!!

PS. I am NOT the best person to ask advice from when it concerns financial decisions that impact YOUR personal life.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I see you're not much of a fan of punctuation but I think I got the jest of what you are asking. For one, like Hal mentioned, you don't even know what each phone will truly consist of so patience might be the first step. Secondly, if you get the Note and love the Note, it will be 12 months before the next Note is released. No one is telling you or forcing you to get the next 'Samsung' device released 6 months later. The Note series and the Edge series are entirely different phones. Lastly, no one here can help you with your decision. That would be like me asking you which I should have for dinner....pizza or steak. Only you can decide.

And no, I am not disappointed in a phone that I don't know the details of. If Apple brings a new non-click home button, true tone display, a second speaker, a much improved camera, water proof casing along with the features in ios 10 then I will be more than fine. If a person in 2007 using a flip phone kept holding out for the next phone because it was rumored to be better than the up-coming offering they would still be using a flip phone.

In my opinion being invested in one ecosystem, while having its advantages, isn't as vital as some people make it out to be. I've always mixed and matched, using Windows, iOS, and Android devices (never actually owned a Mac though).

Oh my god.......an iPhone android back and forth.......in macrumor's no less...........who would have thought.......how new......how novel........does anyone ever check past threads........sticks finger in throat.........

iPhone...android
...iPhone....android....iPhone....android......iPhone......android.....iPhone.....android......fades to black.

Perhaps a permanent iPhone/android circle jerk thread would make some sense.

Definitely go for the note 7. I don't see why your computer type should matter. I have a PC, iPhone, mac, and have had androids without issues. My next phone will be a galaxy once my 6s starts to die.

You might wanna keep secure, secure friend. You know how secure iPhone is so sync that bad boy to your Mac all you want. To me it seems like Android could be a security breach when you sync to your Mac.

I like the security on iPhone Daddy Tim is keeping his babies safe. Keeping you safe me safe, everyone safe on the iPhone's

Come on man stick with iPhone. Nice device.

OP, Why don't you spend some time reading the posts in the Note 7 thread which is quite extensive and has many folks opinions on the good, the bad and the ugly.

Asking folks to re-answer the same question over and over again is a little tedious. Simply be pro-active and join in the discussion on the most active thread rather than continually creating new ones.

The main thing to remember regardless, is that "The grass is not always greener in the other field".

When it comes to modern smartphone and the current state of apps and the OS, it is a case of it being very much ' similar grass, from just a slightly different field'. Android and iOS are actually moving to a very similar end destination / goal albeit from two different starting points.

As for working with your mac, sync iTunes content via iSyncr app, and use a Google account for calendars and contacts and you will few issues being cross platform.

Would it be bad to have a mac book but own an android phone or would it best to stay on one operating system because macs are the only computers I like but the note is so tempting to upgrade to with its awesome similar to s6 design and it's power and wireless charging etc.

What kind of integration are you looking for between your Mac and possible Android phone?

For file transfers, I have no problem between the two over wifi. I enable SSH server on my mbp and on my Android device I can use a file manager to access sftp:// connections.

For backing up my phone, I use rsync. To schedule the backups I use llama.

Of course you do know imessages isn't going to work on Android.

AFT is not very consistent with the latest OSX. Looks like OSX intentionally crashes it sometimes. You'll have to use whatever software that comes with your phone. Kies and Smart Switch work on Samsung and file transfer works with it.

Smartswitch will kill ATF if you install it. To fix the connection error you have to completely uninstall it using the uninstaller. Just deleting it won't work.

One thing to consider re: Android phone with a Mac is that you can use Pushbullet to get your messages and notifications from your Android phone on your Mac.

Give up your MacBook and get a new Chromebook notebook.
