People are so reluctant to download a new app. Don’t understand why it’s such a big deal!

Making a phone call is not even my use case. I hardly talk to people on the phone.

Since im using smartphones, i stoped talking with people in general not noly on the phone..:p

Unless you need fbook and whatsapp for your business, the best thing you can do is quting these services (and few others). For private usage and privecy there are better ways to communicate.

You will be surprise how many peoples using Telegram from your contact list, give it a try. ;)

After abandoning Facebook, I was seriously considering to leave WhatsApp and what a timing ... I wonder if any of you have done that already and how do you communicate with people on Android now?!

I've never used it. In Ibero America (IA) whatsapp (WA) is wildly popular: saturation has reached a point where everyone seems to think it is the default/only way to communicate on a mobile phone, and it's synonym with texting; really, people look at me funny when they fail to reach me trough WA and ask me how I communicate.

To text I always use the message app on my iPhone (with people on Android/Windows/NonSmartphones this means SMS), but then again, I'm on a plan that has free unlimited texting and calls to NorthAmerica (Canada, USA and México). Some friends on Android phones who do not have the same plan (and therefore pay for each SMS) reach me through DM on twitter.

At work I introduced my coworkers to Slack for bussiness/official matters. Again, in IA Slack is almost unheard of and everyone at the hospital tend to use WA for everything. My reluctance to use WA (stubbornness might be a better word) has meant discrimination against me, unconscious maybe. For instance, I ended up getting out of the ER rotation because EVERYONE has to have WA. I do not kid when I say the saturation/infatuation it's almost absurd.

All my patients have my mobile number, and I have "trained" them to call if it is an emergency, otherwise, text or email for non-urgent doubts or concerns. The fact they can not reach me trough WA (the default reflex everyone has when trying to reach someone) give them pause before reaching out when whimsies hit and earns me a little extra tranquility.
