Hi, all! My name is Christopher and I've been an Android phone user since Android was a baby. I've never had an iPhone although I've had an iPad Air 2 for a couple of years.

I usually upgrade phones to the latest flagship every year. I've considered an iPhone for the past couple of years but just haven't been able to give up on something I "know" (Android). My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy S8+. One of the reasons I keep considering an iPhone is updates. Android phones (except for the Essential, Pixel line up and the older Nexus line up) are notoriously slow @ updating, both security updates and OS updates. I like some of the customizability of an Android and really like the fact that I can add widgets (I live for my Weather Channel and clock/alarm clock widgets). I don't customize a lot but I like that I can tweak my phone to suit me. I don't think I can do that w/an iPhone, right?

The price has also kept me away from iPhones. I'm changing carriers this year and the only Android phone they carry that I would want is the Note 9. That's not quite as pricy as the 256gb XS Max I'd buy in the Apple line up but it's close so the price difference isn't such a sticking point anymore.

Bottom line......what does an iPhone have/what can an iPhone do that would make a 15 year Android vet jump ship?

Thanks, all.

HAGO!!!

Not as customizable as your Android phone. Once you are in the "Eco-system" it will be hard to leave. I say stay where you are. We all like to think the grass is always greener on the other side. Not always. I'll be joining you on your side of the fence very soon. Apple's latest release left me underwhelmed.

iPhone probably is not for you. You can do about as much to customize the iPhone as you can with the iPad.

Wow. I sort of figured you guys would provide me with some benefits of Apple over Android. I guess not. I suppose everyone will be selling their iPhones soon if you think so "highly" of them. :(

Who the f*** asks people to convince them to switch from software programs. What are you 10? Grow up and don’t sound so ______...

Ortiz83--Dude, you're just a rude punk. I wanted to know some reasons why the iPhone is better than Android to help me decide which way I should go. You want to cuss at me and insult me. Not even sure what word was supposed to be in that blank but I really don't care.

What a way to welcome a new member. :(

Its funny you sat that. I have a friend that just got an iPhone (issues by his work) to "see what its like." This is what i messaged him...

i don’t know if you will see any benefit or advantage to the iPhone 8 over any other android device. You have no investment, nor do you have any motivation to invest in the Apple ecosystem... And thats a big part of what makes the iOS platform and iPhone in particular, attractive to myself most other Apple fans.

I’m just saying you can make a comparison (to your Android phone) but I don’t know that it will necessarily give you unexpected results. I find people who prefer one platform over the other will be inherently biased... but basically because they did not invest in the apps or advantages of either platform beyond the phone itself.

I'm not saying that i'm immune to it. I regularly use new Android pones. I have devices like the Pixel and Note variants because they are required for the function of my job. Although I have used Android devices extensively, I have no desire to switch. But thats a combination of the fact I am adjusted to iOS and I have a signigficant investment in the Apple eco system in both software and hardware.

E.G. Laptop, Apple TV, AirPods, iPad, iTunes movies muisic and apps. That sort of stuff. On the flip side i'll never invest in the Google play store at this point and i know my Android experience will never be that of someone who has fully integrated into the Google / android ecosystem.

You’re welcome. And if that’s what you wanted, title your thread better. And I didn’t curse at you. I simply just cursed. There’s a difference.

15 years huh? You mention updates, but how big of an issue is that really for you if you upgrade every year? Yes, Samsung is terrible about updates and slow on security updates, but your new phone is usually up to date, except the Note 9 on year old operating system, great phone though. Lots of advantages and disadvantages of both, but they are both great now, just your preference. I use both.

You have to convince yourself. If customizing is your thing then Android is for you. For me the iPhone does everything I need it to do. I use to have to jailbreak to get iOS the way I wanted it. Now I have just what I need from iOS without jailbrreaking.

You guys have convinced me. You can keep this forum and you can keep Apple. I wanted some assistance. What I got was crap and rude remarks. I don't have time for BS like this. You guys must work for Google.

there is a more detailed response i'm my 2nd reply. Take a look at that.

You should have led with a different title. It is no one's responsibility here to convince you of what works best for needs. You have a brand new account here and your post feels like a troll post (even though you may be 100% serious). Most of the people here aren't going to take the bait. "What are the advantages of iPhone over Android" would have been a much better title. Best of luck to you in your phone search.

Think you quoted the wrong person ‍♂️

If you have been considering getting an iPhone for a couple of years, maybe just go for it, try it out and see if u like it or not. You have 14 days to decide. I have had the iPhone since the 5s, before that i had the galaxy s2, havent looked back since then. The iPhone just works for me, it does everything i need it to do. It feels way more polished and way more smooth IMO. And my family and most of my friends have iPhones, iMessage and Facetime are just amazing. I just love the ease and simplicity of iOS. I upgrade to the new iPhone every year and i am planning on staying in the apple eco system for a while. Good luck with your decision and if you do decide to do the big switch, come back and let us know what you think!

Hear is how I sum it up if you want real useable power you take a iPhone if you want something to impress ur freands with specs by telling them ur mobile has 8 cores and 8gb off ram you take a android

There’s a reason why Samsung gets smashed in bench marks off iPhone

Once you dig deep anuff and understand how the software is useing the hardware you will understand

So I will brake it down for you 2 off those 8 corse are locked off just to run the os with now leaves you with 6 cores

Out off those 6 cores a nuther 2 off those corse are locked off to hand things like phone calls texts gps carmara and stuff

That now leaves you with 4 cores and out off those 4 corse a nuther 2 corse are locked off to handle back ground runing application

Witch now leaves you with 2 cores to use freely for 3rd party apps so ur big fancy spec 8 core is really only a 2 core at best

Now for ur ram android is ram hungry there’s a reason your seeing 8gb off ram but in reality you don’t have 8gb if you check a stock Samsung galaxy s8 why I am saying s8 is because that’s the last one I looked at with nuthing installed apart form a ram checker you will see that out off that 8gb off ram you only have 800mb free for games the rest is partisond off in to segments some is for the os to run most is so apps can quick launch by staying in ram so ur 8gb off ram in reality is only 800mb

If tinkering and customizing your phone absolutely brings joy to your life or you feel defined by how long the spec sheet of your phone is then even if the iOS experience is the most wonderful, painless, stable, smooth user experience you’ve ever come across you’ll never be happy with it.

On the other hand if I were to ever switch to Android I’d switch to their “iPhone”, the pixel, mostly because I assume the pixel gets the latest and all of the android updates.

Fragmentation is mostly a non issue on the Apple side which I guess could be seen as a negative for Android users considering it’s generally the same UX on touchscreen Apple devices.

The deeper you go into the Apple ecosystem system, the better their products get.

I can make a solid case for both operating systems, but it really boils down to personal use and priorities.
