Leaks tell us enough to know what's coming and those features are likely to arrive next year
Well we do know what likely, leaks have told us everything pretty much about every Apple product the past 3-4 years
The 6s, once people got their hands on it, knocked it out of the park. The leaks did not tell much of the story.
We knew what was coming with the 6s plus, nothing was wrong in any of the main leaks. Yes it's a great device but we knew 3D Touch was coming
That might have been the only thing. Cpu performance, front flash, Live Photos , water resistance, hey Siri, can't remember everything, but nobody knew the complete package.

Water resistance? It isn't marketed as that at all
I don't know about who the "we" was, I followed closely and I didn't know. Unless I totally forgot bout wwdc keynote.
At any rate the amount if reengineer was staggering and nobody knew the extent, and the same might apply to iPhone 7.
You may have known, but some of the reviews that came out at the time expressed surprise, fwiw.
I just remembering wasn't surprised by any of the announcement only thing was how it would all fit into everything
Not being surprised, as in a ho-hum
attitude, is different than not knowing.
What is known about the iPhone 7? Headphone jack? 0, 1,2 sims? Bezels, internal hardware? The only thing seemingly known currently is the form factor. But there will be leaks approaching launch I'm sure.
Edit: I wasn't being pejorative, only trying to point out that one person's being surprised is another person's couldn't care less. Or that I totally forgot about the leaks.

I like to call all this the "ripple" effect...
