my only hope is that MBP will have a 13" version....
15" MBP is just too big for me, while i dun think apple will push out MacBook with C2D before Oct.

Anodized MBP's

i just want an anodized black aluminum case!

the second apple releases one i will haul over to buy one at the apple store... i just don't know how much longer i can wait. for now my deadline is end of octover.

meroms of course, as well as updates to the housing so that macbook is no longer superior (keyboard, magnetic lach, and user changeable hd) i think its rediculous that for a grand cheaper you can get a machine thats better designed.

p.s. is there anywhere i can buy a black anodized aluminum housing to put onto a macbook pro? i'm not talking about colorware... they leave the keyboard, trackpad and rubbers silver :(

I'm actually happy, that you bring up this issue. A aluminum casing could be anodized in ANY color and easily so. I'd love one in strawberry red:p

I'm with you one this one. If apple would release a 13in version i would so sell my two other computers and get one right now. I just want a small pro laptop to carry around on campus. I want dedicated graphics for the CAD stuff i do for my major.

Which would cause me to wait on the nice HDTV i want but apple stuff is cooler.

No point to 512MB. You probably won't see much of a performance increase, if any.

one of these please !!

I'm going for the 15.4 inch

highest GHz core 2 duo

2 gigs of Ram - one that is included from Apple and the other from somewhere else

100GB 7200RPM drive

and the best graphics card on offer.

I think I would like:

15" 2.0 or 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo
1GB (single SODIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
120GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB GDDR3 memory
One FireWire 400, one FireWire 800, and two USB 2.0 ports

I wouldn't mind, though I doubt we'll see:
13" 2.0 or 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo
1GB (single SODIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
120GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB GDDR3 memory
One FireWire 400 and two USB 2.0 ports

Surely they'd have made 160 GB an option now if there wasn't an update round the corner? (It's now an option for the mini after all).

I've thought about anodised black to match my new nano but I suspect my silver PBG4 is much better at hiding finger prints. Black would be stunning but I suspect I'd spend a lot of time wiping it to keep it that way.

I've used the MB keyboard and although the look is a bit weird, I like the touch and the sound. I don't know if MBP keyboards make marks on the screen (like that on my Rev A PBG4 15") but I'd take a MB-style keyboard if it negates this issue.

Doom 3 takes advantage of the 512mb, though I haven't seen it to see what the difference actually is.

i was thinking more to the future as opposed to now, assuming future games can use 512 to a notable advantage.

Not to mention that DRAM actually draws power. More DRAM = higher power load = worse battery time.

I'd like:

15.4" LCD
2.33 GHz C2D
1GB of RAM std (will upgrade to 2GB)
100GB 7200 RPM drive std (USER SWAPPABLE)
8x DL SuperDrive
ATI X1800 (or nVidia equiv) with 256MB of VRAM
(1) FW 800, (1) FW 400, (2) USB 2.0
ExpressCard/54
Magnetic Latch (not a big deal, but with me if a small moving part can break, it probably will).
NEVER CHANGE THE KEYBOARD!

Wow..that would be soo tight. Something that nice needs a black anodized case would top it off, looks differentiation...you know?

IF not though...a price drop would be almost equally appreciated. 17 for current 15.4 price $2,299. but that seems unlikely. besides id gladly pay for a mbp with the specs you listed...

The only thing i want from a Core 2 Duo Macbook/Macbook Pro is that I want it to be ready NOW!
Amen to that! I am ready to purchase a Macbook now, but I'm waiting until they upgrade the CPU to Core 2's. And I know there are a lot of other people doing the same thing.

Come on Apple, you already did the iMac line, now do the Macbook line!
Puhleez! I can't wait forever.

Hard drive speed, shipping delay

I think a lot of people are underestimating how much of a bottleneck the hard drive is. Don't forget that anything that can't fit in RAM is going to sit on the hard drive, and have to get moved back in to RAM when you need to use it. 7200rpm is where it's at.

You might also be interested in this:
A week ago I ordered a 17" MBP, 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200 RPM HD Ship date was originally estimated at 5-7 days. Today, I got an email saying that it won't ship until 9/26. A day after the next mac event? A day before PC vendors are shipping meroms? I really hope it's not a coincidence.

You and a few other people have begun having these MBP delays that past few days, even though the apple site still says 24 hr. ship time. We all know that MB's have experienced delays because of back-to-school shortages, but when Apple made that statement, they didn't include MBP's.

Could this be the sign we've been looking for?

What about people who put iMacs on order a few weeks ago, before the new iMacs were announced? I wonder if they received similar ship delay notices because of the newer systems? Does Apple generally post-pone ship dates right before an upgrade? Interesting.

Here are the things I want updated, in order of importance:

1. 160GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive

2. ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 with 256MB GDDR3 memory

3. 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo

And of course, fix the quality issues: noise, heat, uneven backlighting, terrible build quality, etc. This is supposed to be a premium product.

I hope Apple hits all of this in the next rev, because I'm buying the 17" as soon as it is updated.

Then again it is a CTO system, can someone please place a stock order and verify this?
