for what its worth, i installed FEAR last night and let the game auto-detect settings. it went with max for virtually everything. i was gonna up the resolution to native, but i got a warning saying that the game wasnt optimized for this res (it seems to only be optimized for the "standard" resolutions). so, its currently running at 1024x768 or something similar to that.

the game runs super smooth. averaging around 40-50 fps. fans dont even stay on all the time. doesnt get too hot or anything.

so to those people posting in the thread above me and saying that its ridiculous to try and run a game like FEAR or farcry (which is 2+ years old!) - maybe you ought to try it first.

FEAR ran fine on my previous MBP 2.0Ghz CD 2gb ram, 256mb vram. I can only assume that it will run much better on my new C2D 2.33Ghz.

Call of Duty 2 runs perfect on C2D with most of the settings maxed, where I would have to go with medium on CD.

Why are some people saying the MBP is a great laptop and is good for "Casual gaming". The Macbook not! Pro is a casual gaming system not a Pro. The MBP can be used for gaming. It might not be as good for gaming compared 2 a XPS but considering the "weight" and "slimness" and "better" looks it does gaming great!

Please don't say any rude comments or reply to this. Just saying what is ''TRUE''.

Oh and another thing. Maybe if you ever get a Vram upgrade for your MBP to 256mb Vram you should try the benchmarks again. Of course the XPS will win again but not by a landslide. And I think every1 would agree that 1024x768 is a good enough rez 4 gaming. It is a widescreen rez and any gamer would say that that is about the lowest rez they would go but anything less would not be good for serious gaming so with that screen rez you should with 256 vram play all those games above 30 fps which is great and 4 some of those games even be able 2 max the rez out!:D

assuming you're using the built in display, graphics are significantly better at native resolution

I think we all know if you want a gaming laptop you need to look toward a Dell or an Alienware (some others), but the question in why?
Why doesn't Apple offer a better video card? Even in the MacPro a 7300 is just.... well.. cheap. It's a top of the line desktop, a monster, and you get a crappy video card. Come on.

Both the MBP and MacPro need to have a higher standard video card.

Um...... Dude! The Mac Pro DOES!!! have a higher standard video card. You can upgrade it to a X1900 XT and it blows anything PC has in gaming. You should go to
http://barefeats.com/imcd4.html and see 4 yourselves. It doesn't exactly blow PC outta the water but this is only with 2gb of ram. That BEAST can take a whole load of 16gb of RAM. That is some pretty good stuff. That Mac Pro RULEz.!:D

No kidding. I love people who have no idea about PC gaming and prices, and then say how if you upgrade a MacPro to a x1900xt it will blow any PC out of the water. Some people simply have no clue about hardware + gaming.

Hey if you guys haven't already seen these vids on youtube, you can watch these if you want. It has Quake 4 http://youtube.com/watch?v=Fw3mnEfh-Ig and some other games like FEAR, and Prey and a few others http://youtube.com/watch?v=qacYf-00tr4, Half life 2 on this 1 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4kH5suKHY84&mode=related&search= CS:S on this 1 http://youtube.com/watch?v=eaVcu8QqPVc&mode=related&search= and BF2 on this 1 http://youtube.com/watch?v=fz3yKNacwUY&mode=related&search= . All of these are at Highest settings, the only thing that isn't at Highest is the rez in some of them but anyway I was bored and thought I just post some Vidz on this Macbook Pro forum.:)

LOL if you read properly you would see I wrote it doesn't actually blow PC outta the water. But it does game very well. Dummy:) I was only saying how good it was. Of course I know about the Direct X 10 gfx cards. duh! Anyway it was so long since u posted but just felt like saying that. Any1 getting Halo 2 Vista? Dumb Microsoft is way off track.

I'll be interested in another comparison like this after the MBP has been updated. Since the XPS is still running on the 70XX series of Nvidia GPUs, if the MBP gets a new generation of video card, G80 or ATI 20XX it may nearly equal or even out perform the XPS.
