Can't you just buy a graphics card for your Powermac that would be core image capable? Seems the logical solution to me...

i dont have 1400 cash
unless sombody buys my powermac right now and gets me the cash by tomorrow...im credit cards only...

You have nothing to lose by asking the credit card company to up your limit. Sounds like that's your only option now.

id rather not get to more debt than i have to...sadly...

does anybody have any information to get it for less? I cant have it shipped because i need it monday...so...apple store chicago is my only option.

Time to get a job or start babysitting.

Hey if your in Milwaukee, why go down to the Chicago store when Mayfair is just down the road?

Also, try craigslist with your PM. Price it so it will sell and I am sure you would sell by Sunday.

OK - I see the situation you are in as this:
1) You have the PMG4, worth $1400, but you doubt it will sell by the end of the weekend.
2) You need the iMac by Monday, but don't have the $1600 in cash
3) You have $1400 in credit from various sources (Apple and CC).
4) Nobody has a coupon - those are few and far between.
5) You do not want more debt than you need (It's the last $200 that worries you)

Here are your options as I see them:
1) Wait until you have the $$ to buy a machine - even if that means waiting until the G4 sells or until you earn the money.
2) Keep asking for a coupon that can't going to appear,
3) Get a higher limit on the CC and pay it off the day you sell the G4.
4) Get a higher limit on the Apple Credit and pay it off the day you sell the G4.

I know that 4 is almost guaranteed to work - Apple is very flexible with students. I think 3 can work - CCs like high limits.

Remember, Apple will let you buy more b/c you only have to pay the interest while you are in school - they don't require principal payments. That makes it easier to pay it off at your pace until you have employment, without having to eat the cardboard box the pizza came in.

i will be in chicago anyways for the weekend...so it is closest...

it is currently on craigslist...has been for about 2 weeks.

Is that yours at $1450? If so, that is not really priced to sell even with the upgrades.

Someone also mentioned sales tax earlier...have you built that into your budget? I think its somewhere around 9% now in Chitown

Sorry dude, but this is a joke

Anyone else wonder if this guy's just tugging our strings?

If he was really seriously in such a desperate position as to be asking/posting so much here, he could just lower the price of his G4 to something reasonably attractive, and it will sell within hours. No one can argue with that. End of story. Of course you could also run up your credit limit if you are feeling foolish, but why bother when you have a computer that will sell in a heartbeat if it was priced right.

If you're not serious enough to do that one simple thing, then please stop "begging" here, it's quite unbecoming.

I was leaning toward calling BS on his need for a new iMac considering that whatever software he plans to use couldn't possibly be that demanding that a dual G4 couldn't handle it...right? Also, has this mystery software package even been converted to Universal yet?

I too wouldn't encourage taking on debt, instead, stick with the fully capable G4 for a while.

this is what the syllibus of the course says
i can give you the professors name if you all really want.

I feel that the price of around 1300-1500 for my machine is quite fair...considering a reference to a buying site said the would pay 1200 for it...so...add a few hundred because naturally they already lowball...i think its right...

i went ahead and just upped the credit limit...just go with that i guess.

thanks to all who helped.

i just have to sell the powermac within the next few days/ to a month.
