...I think they just like shaking the salt shaker.

I like 'shaking the salt shaker' but that is a different thread entirely

Actually, I do not add salt to my food when eating and use half the suggested level of salt when cooking (not that I cook much). Living in Japan I eat a lot of dishes that include rice - at least rice with one meal a day - and I don't think salt goes well with rice. I get my daily share of vegies and meat in the various dishes I eat and seem to manage. I do cramp sometimes when exerting a lot in summer (tennis, touch rugby in the park, etc) which can be a sigh of low salt intake - I sweat alot so drink sport suppliments when active.

Anyway, any initiative to try to improve dietary intake is good as long as it doesn't impose on people

It can also be a sign of low potassium. Maybe you could try this:
Wouldn't it be better to just change to a potassium based salt? A product in the US is called, no salt. Lot easier than changing the hole sizes :D

This is also a great source of potassium.

Hidden Agendas

Just shows how ridiculous the food police are. The government gets involved because:
A guilty population is easier to manipulate. Most people live in a state of guilt over eating the wrong foods or doing something "wrong" in regards to their health. So when they encounter social problems, this guilt is generalized and they feel they are to blame, no matter what the issue. It teaches them to look inward vs outward.

But this is especially true in health related matters. All the while Bush was screatching at us to shape up, he was cutting health and safety regulations left and right, raising the acceptable amount of pollution, and putting industry hacks in governmental regulation agencies. But everyone was to busy with the latest food fads to notice the hypocrisy.

It distracts us from other things. I am speaking for the U.S. but all one hears in conversation is BMI, HDL and the like. While we were obsessing over our numbers our civil rights have eroded, along with our pension funds. Coincidence!

Profit. The government acts on behalf of special interests. Health crusades keep the obsession in our minds. How many people know C. Everett Koops Shape Up America was sponsored by Wyeth, the company responsible for the deadly fen-phen? They wanted to public to view obesity as so dangerous, they would go beyond lifestyle to take the poison. Same principle with salt or anything else. While I am not saying there is nothing to the health warnings, keeping it in our consciousness to the degree they do makes us all hypochondriacs. It may sound counterintuitive to some folks because they are stressing lifestyle change, but many folks will go beyond that to take the pills. Health crusades are good for business. From the war in Iraq to the food police, if the government is pushing it, some corporation is profiting from it!
