Well I personally only use my mac for emulation (which it is excellent at btw) but if they intentionally break the game for people then they’ll either fix it or they’re going to get class-actioned. I suppose they’ll fix it - it seems like a really odd way to sunset the game on mac (if that is what they were trying to do). There are much simpler ways.

A simple QA process of testing the Mac upgrade would have caught this.

Also, Valve should have been more forthcoming about this snafu. An admission of the mess-up, explanation of what went wrong and how they plan to catch such thing going forward would have gone over much better. But now they got outlets such as MR reporting that "Valve quietly removed the macOS symbol on Steam's Counter-Strike product page." That's really not a good look and significantly reduces trust in the brand.

that’s not really comparable - i think the issue here is that they are breaking the game you’ve already bought.
As I understood CS Go is from 2012 and is now discontinued and replaced with CS2. So he needs to get another HW to run this new game. Quite fair after over 10 years of support.

It doesn’t really work that way. You can stop selling something if you want. You can also stop supporting something on newer hardware and OS’s if you want. You cannot intentionally break something (without compensation).

I see it as discontinued after over 10 years and new. And you can carry over your stats etc into the new game.

That is why I don't play any of these online games. If the companies, that make these things, shuts down the servers etc. it is bye-bye for you, the player.
I haven’t really played fps since BF2, but I assumed Valve did not control all the servers for the game. Maybe I’m just too old. But yeah I wouldn’t even start on something that the community didn’t have some layer of control over.

Once Mac gaming picks up, I will upgrade my M1 Mac mini to a Mac Studio with Max chip. Until then, I’m keeping my still as new Mac mini. And I refuse to buy a PC. I have a Windows work laptop and my usage of Windows is limited to that. Shelf life of Windows machines is around 2-3 years. Shelf life of Macs is over 5 years.

How many hours did this guy play this game? Over 6000 hours? I think the game was worth it for him.

That reasoning only holds if they were selling at as a service. It would not hold up if people sue. Apparently there was no notice and no indication of the change for mac users. Valve will have to issue refunds. The age is irrelevant if they did it intentionally. I don’t think they can claim it is the same product.

Assuming they did do it on purpose I’m sure they knew they’d be issuing some refunds - just the cost of doing business. It’s cheaper for them than actually supporting Mac.

You don’t buy windows for Apple / App Store support and catalog you don’t buy Mac for gaming. If you do you’re foolish everyone knows this it’s not new. CS isn’t an intensive game (Steam Deck can run it well) so you can get a playable experience on a cheap windows machine.

This ignores the fact that Valve deleted a working game in MacOS that many people paid for and that the replacement will not support MacOS.

I have no complaints if Valve doesn't want to support Macs for CS2 but they should not delete games that many paid for.

Did they forget to change the availability platform settings, allowing the download only for Windows users. This is a cluster**** for people downloading 26GB to find out that it only doesn't work, but messes up their previous game install.
Like most companies today, QA is out the windows.
Absolute amateur hour.

Ironic that Mac users complain they need an iPad (touchscreen/pen) AND a macOS desktop/laptop combination to get things done. Hardcore Mac fans users say just have two devices! Then we get to this sad situation where you can't game on a Mac...the same hardcore Mac fans are showing the exact opposite stance - why we need to have one system for productivity and one for gaming. Just buy a console and or PC to game on. No problems whatsoever.

I'm sorry but why would anyone expect any game to work on Macs? Macs have never supported gaming in any real way and never will. If you want to game, you need Windows, there is no way around that, there never was. Apple not only does not help developers in this, they also make extra efforts to impede game development for some reason. They don't want games on their platform.
What are you on? Gonna need citation for like… all of that. They literally bring out gaming developers every special event. What extra effort are they making to impede. Several games are already expected to work on macOS and have for years. This must be some next level sarcasm / trolling. Whoosh flew right over my head probably. Be careful and indicate sarcasm next time please…

Is it sure that this isn't coming for the mac? Maybe there are some negotiations with apple onging. How is this game paid? On a monthly basis? If this is the case I would too expect to get an info so you are able to cancel the subscription. But there was really no notice? CS2 came unexpected?

Steam was updated for better Mac support yall must be living far in the past
Hardware acceleration is hardly better support. It still runs pretty badly. It is the only software I have on my MacBook that is not native.

Better gaming support needs to come from somewhere, and Valve can give a gentle helping hand with a native port of Steam and CS2. It would be quite symbolic for developers to see that their games can be fully appreciated on MacOS.

well it’s been free-to-play for a while now, but there are in-game purchases. The old executable was replaced with the new one, so the old game essentially disappeared overnight - even for mac users that are unable to play the replacement.
i guess the part I find funny is that the windows executable file was sent to mac computers.

I'd hate having to play a game like this on Mac. There's no way there are people seriously playing this on a Mac lol. Do people with Macs only play with bots?
CS has never been very demanding. it could be played on windows pcs with way less powerful gpus than today’s macs. i’d have to assume CS2 is not all that different or a lot of windows users would be left out in the cold too.
