They had the perfect accessories for the iPad Air and Air 2, Smart Cover and Smart Case. It is a complete mystery why they stopped them. The new Slip is not going to be very helpful for people who use their iPads on and off frequently throughout the day - it makes the device less accessible on the move. Also, the pen holder is annoying for those who don't need or want the pen. I've ordered the Leather Smart Cover and hope Apple offer a proper Smart Case soon otherwise it's going to take a battering. Apple seems to need someone to do a "common sense check" on their product development these days. They must have some kind of group think problem.

Better yet, take off the back cover and keep on the front cover. It hangs over the edge of the bare ipad. The smart covers for the Air and Air 2 were flush. The real issue comes when you fold it back. The Air/2 covers clicked nicely against the magents and stayed in place, fitting perfectly against the edges. The newer covers, because they're a bit too big, don't stay put when folded back.

Not really. I removed the back and the top cover is pretty well the same size. You can slide it around as the hinge is flexible but it seems to be the right size.

...pretty well the same size...

169mm and 173mm are indeed "pretty well the same size." the difference? one fits and the other doesn't.

the ipad air/air 2 covers clicked neatly into place when closed and folded back and did *not* "slide around" at all. the new ones do. this is my point.

and it may seem like a minor quibble, but remember this isn't some 3rd party knockoff for 7 bucks. this is an apple product, designed to fit with one specific tablet that they make. the thing costs 50 DOLLARS... and it doesn't fit!

i did the same thing, coming from ipad air 2, thinking the leather cover was a case... now im planning on returning the ipad pro and pencil since i cant find anything else as nice as the leather case. weird, but to me the leather case is the best out there and without it, its a deal breaker...
