Shouldnt ibooks, one of their own apps, be updated and ready to go from day 1?

I don't have a problem with how the Facebook app looks on the 10.5... had it not been for this thread, I wouldn't have noticed the battery percentage get a little bigger when the app is scaled up.

However, one issue I'm having is that the split keyboard is not working in that app, nor in the couple of other non-optimized apps (like Amazon).

It's not noticeable on 10.5" but non optimized apps on the 12.9" looks bad, and that's most apps

It is noticeable on 10.5.

I'm sure it's worse on the 12.9.

Like the new iPad, but right now it's a bit of an android experience.

Nice new hardware but a lot of apps don't provide optimum experience.

My concern is that as long as the cheapest 9.7 iPad is out there, it will be the most popular and developers will just aim for that res. Only developers for pro apps will cater for pro iPad.

I am afraid of this too!

Though just so developers out there who read this I am willing to pay more for a app if it supports the new iPad Pro 10.5 and 12.9 resolution!

Agree 100%
The best choice was same 12.9 resolution in 10.5 also. More ppi and apps already good.

not exactly...Try yourself, if the battery icon make bigger when you open an app, the resolution is downscaled to 2048 and the ppi became only 244. There is nothing else to assume.

I even get this on the default pre-installed Apple apps. I noticed the status bar font ("iPad", Clock etc) are a bit bigger and look slightly washed out.

However it doesnt really bother me

I played with Paper 53 last week on one of the new 10.5 iPads (in store) and while it scales, the touch area wasn't aligned properly. Might have been fixed by now though.

Paper has now been updated.

I’ve also seen an update for Infuse specifically mention 10.5 support.

Facebook for me is the main one that looks terrible. Others you don’t notice so much as they’re not so text based. It’s even more irritating that they push out updates pretty much weekly with minimal changes and haven’t bothered including a resolution fix in one of them.

The New York Times app STILL is not optimized for the 12.9! I've been using the Apple News app to read Times stories, and this got me thinking: if I can read it here for free, and it looks decent, then why am I paying for a subscription when NYT won't even bother to optimize their app for my iPad of choice?

Amazing they get away with putting out a faulty product. Yet everyone is buying. Im sure we'll soon hear "Your looking at the screen wrong".
It's not a faulty product, developers have to update the apps. It happens every time they change screen size. So you think they should hold the hardware up? I guess for 64 bit apps to then? Some developers do everything right and keep up some do not, it seems about 30% drag their feet. No Apple apologist, but this time it's not them.

Which is on Apple for sure, but the iPad Pro is a faulty product? Instead of, they dropped a ball on a core app. Which they do for time to time.

More than likely they are releasing updates in 10.3.3 which is near the end of beta testing. Got one yesterday and had no issue with iBooks, did open when you mentioned. Are you saying just the 10.5 or the 12.9 as well?

Is this true? I could have sworn I used iBooks on the 12.9 and it was optimized for that resolution.

how the heck could apple apps not be optimized ? the 12.9 came out how many years ago?

I have the 10.5" iPad.

Apps like YouTube seem to be resolution independent on 10.5" since day 1. While apps like Gmail is not, and looks slightly terrible.

My observation seems to be that split-screen compatible apps are all resolution independent on 10.5" iPad already.

what happens with apps that are not split screen compatible? aren't they able being used in split screen mode but only fullscreen?

Crowdsourcing Update

The iPad was touted to have a better UI optimized for tablet over the Android counterparts.

Is there a point in getting the 10.5" or 12.9" iPad Pro if most apps you use frequently are not updated to support its resolution? (e.g. wasted space all over and apps not looking right = user experience suffers)

Since there isn't an easy way to know which apps are supported on the Pro formats, I have an idea to consolidate this information in a table. But this would require the help of fellow MacRumors friends here, through crowdsourcing.

If any of you could chip in and let me know which apps are supported for which format/features, I'm sure some people will find it helpful (I know I'll be thankful!). It would also be great if you all could post screenshots of the app on the format (e.g. 10.5" or 12.9") so all of us can have a concrete visual example of the app in question.

P.S. I have an issue inserting an image through URL, so had to upload an attachment

I noticed there seems to be a greater demand for the 12.9" iPad Pros this iteration, possibly due to the introduction of iOS 11.

However, does any of the 12.9" users find that due to the much un-utilized space for their non-optimized apps, it would be better to get the smaller iPad this time round?

One example:

From my experience on a 9.7", if an app is not split screen compatible, you can only run them on full screen mode and bring in from the side an overlay app temporarily.

Can anyone confirm this? YouTube being resolution independent?

I saw in other threads/sites that YouTube is not optimized for 12.9" to date.

Iirc, comiXology (along with comiXology-powered DC, Image and Marvel apps) recently released an update that added support for 12.9" back in April 2017 or something. Can't test yet. My Pro 12.9 isn't due to arrive until 2nd week of July.

YouTube is optimised for the 12.9 and works in Splitview.

FlipBoard s also optimised for the 12.9 but is not compatible with Splitview.

Thanks, I will wait for your update.
The wait must be a hard and long one.

Thank you, I have updated the chart on the first page.

If anyone else can help chip in, that'll be great!
