Cursor jumping around on external display since M1

btw I also use USB A like this, and I already try unplugging everything and restart every day lol. Then I already try login using safe mode (it should be exclude more interference from any background process), and it still happen. I also already update my mac ventura OS, but it still happen.

I have a Mac Mini M1, so it has 2 actual usb-A's. So I plugged my mouse receiver in one of these (instead of a hub just like yours) before the problem seemed to go away. (Again, not sure how that helped or if it wasn't something else in that round of trial and error fixing that got it working.)

HOWEVER, I had the same issue with my magic mouse, which is bluetooth. So while I am now suggesting you to at least try unplugging your keyboard from the hub and try just the mouse (maybe it is some interference issue of macs rn), that might not be the case, given that bluetooth did not solve much.

Since our problems listed in this thread are different (lagging and skipping and both) (and since, if I remember correctly, I had the same issue even when using my iPad's magic keyboard's trackpad through SideCar, similar with what you tried with your Windows machine), I suspect there being something wrong with MacOS on M1's and some interference (either at software or hardware level) with some combinations of peripherals (storage, docs, etc.).

At any rate, do you have the same issue when in Safe Mode with nothing plugged and using your trackpad? Cause if you don't, then it must be what I postulated above. If you do, then there must be something in the background that causes the trouble (or you have a faulty trackpad with poor touch reading, but that's highly unlikely given the existence of this thread). I don't have a MacBook, so if you could test that, it'd give some great troubleshooting information.

ricky7171, Are you on Mac OS Ventura? I just updated yesterday and haven't had the issue so far.
Usually my cursor was pretty much always jumping around, so fingers crossed it doesn't come back.

Same problem. I have a dozen mice, mostly Logitech, and have used them satisfactorily on iMacs, Minis and Linux boxes for years. When the M1s first came out, I got a Mini, and immediately had problems with the jumping cursor. It definitely did not work worth a c**p with the sender plugged into the back of the Mini. If I moved it to an outboard hub it worked better, then on the end of a 6ft USB cable it was almost satisfactory, but I finally just bought a cheapo HP wired mouse and moved on.

So. This year, I get an M1 Studio that I assumed would have the problem fixed, and it is exactly the same. Exactly. Back to another wired mouse.

OS problem? Not likely. They work fine on an Intel iMac with Mojave, and now Ventura. Works fine on an Intel Air, with Mojave and a 6 core Intel Mini with Monterey.

Again, wired mice work like they are supposed to. Wireless do not, but only on M1's (and maybe M2's) so Logitech has a problem with Apple Silicon, or vice versa. If I was a conspiracist I would wonder if Apple thinks that everyone should be using only their Jony Ive inspired junk.

Using a wired mouse is not a horrible ordeal, but this is a problem that is apparently not getting fixed, if my searches are any indication.

Yeah, you have such an insane power of the M1 studio yet you can't use a mouse it's pretty crazy.

However, are you still having the issue on your M1 studio with Venture latest update?
My Macbook Pro (M1pro) works fine now with a wireless Logitech mouse.

Yes. It isn't too bad if I keep the sender module far away (which tells me that it is an interference problem) but while the mouse is satisfactory on ordinary usage, trying to use an irregular moving cursor when you are in a paint or photo app is beyond frustrating. Staying on the wired 5 dollar HP special. Not very high tech, but it works.

Here to mention I have the same issue on an M1 MBP with a Logitech MX Vertical mouse. From my testing it doesn't happen with my Dell external monitor but happens intermittently but regularly with my new LG Dual Up monitor. Haven't found anything to make it stop and it's quite frustrating.

Update on my end: After trying a hundred different things, I finally tested unplugging my Anker USB hub that was plugged in via a thunderbolt/usb-c to usb adapter and haven't seen a cursor jump since. I just ordered a Belkin thunderbolt to standard-usb hub so we'll see if that works.

Came here to keep this thread alive. I have this problem too since I got my M1 with my Logitech g502. I've tried everything, but nothing seems to work. I've noticed the jumps to be more reiterative if my M1 is busier with intensive tasks, for example when I plug and unplug external monitors. Jumps also happens then mouse is connected through cable.

Any help will be appreciated.

I had the same issue with my base model M1 MBA. I am thinking this is some kind of an OS X bug, perhaps? Simply restarting the machine while the hub with HDMI was plugged in solved it and I haven't tested it any further.

I’ve had the same issue for almost a year. I’m go to say it’s an OS issue that Apple needs to fix. I’ve experienced this on two separate iMacs (Intel), MacBook Pro M1 and Studio M2. I’ve tried unplugging everything, different mouse, different locations and all have the issue. I’ve even wiped and reinstalled with no third party apps. Nothing fixes the issue. At this point I’m done buying Apple computers as even their support had no idea how to fix it.

This was why I sold my M1 mac the cursor was stuttery on external display
