When will we be able to see weather and other info on lock screen without sliding the NC down or unlocking the phone and going into relevant app? Much like on windows phone and android. So much wasted space.
Pointless how/why?The Apple lock screen is terrible. So much unused real estate.
Notification centre implementation is pointless.

Reason to jailbreak!
In it's current incarnation (since iOS 1) all the lock screen is used for is to tell the time and show everybody else your new born baby pic or wife pic or boyfriend pic. 90% of the screen is useless.Pointless how/why?
I've sent then feedback for YEARS. Don't expect for a moment that they will listen and implement it.I sent Apple some feedback last week regarding an agenda idea for the lock screen. It would work by displaying the next 48 hours of calendar content directly under the clock on the lock screen, after the user enables the agenda in settings of course. The agenda would move down to show incoming notifications but a simple scrolling action would bring the agenda back into view.
Any idea to add information to the lock screen would inevitably bring with it privacy concerns in the case that the phone were lost or stolen.
Being that we have no proof that our feedback is being completely ignored, we cannot rightly assume they aren't listening. Lack of a reply or implementation can be taken many ways. I prefer to give Apple the benefit of the doubt and assume they are working to implement things in the best possible manner. The fact that our lock screens can be viewed by someone who just stole an iPhone shows that Apple need to consider every possible scenario before implementing this type of feature.I've sent then feedback for YEARS. ... When I pick up my phone I want INSTANTLY see my next appointment. My stocks, weather or whatever else I have customised on the lock screen. I should be able to pick up, look, put down. Not pick up, swipe, click, look put down. ...
I, for one, wouldn't want someone who just stole my iPhone to know exactly where I will be at a certain time next week via calendar information on my lock screen.
With Time Travel, a new feature in watchOS 2, you can turn the Digital Crown to see what’s happening — and what’s already happened — yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Time Travel is particularly handy on watch faces with complications. You can see what the weather will be like for your lunch date tomorrow. Check your schedule for later today. Or go back in time to catch up on news headlines you may have missed. A press of the Digital Crown gets you back to the current time.
You see, me myself I like a very empty lock screen. Less information the better for me. Although, I wouldnt oppose the weather. I think Apple should definitely bring something like this out, but give people who may want to the option to DISABLE it. I don't use the calendar in my phone at all, so that part doesn't effect me.
Keep in mind that a key distinction is being drawn between widgets and complications.
Widgets, in comparative terms, take up more space (and I wouldn't want those on my lock screen).
Complications should be much smaller and more subtle / discreet (not the centre of attention on the lock screen).
Of course, anything like this should definitely be optional and user-customisable.
So basically not pointless, but simply doesn't have as much information as you would like it to.In it's current incarnation (since iOS 1) all the lock screen is used for is to tell the time and show everybody else your new born baby pic or wife pic or boyfriend pic. 90% of the screen is useless.
To get any information you have to swipe from the top and even then you may be presented with the wrong page so a click is needed to change tabs.
If you have Touch ID you may as well just enter your phone and find what you were looking for, like your next appointment time. That could be done with 1 press and 1 click.
I have no idea why the lock screen can't remember its last state. Eg if you pulled the notification screen down it stays down until you slide it up.

I should be able to pick up, look, put down. Not pick up, swipe, click, look put down. It makes the whole expensive pointless and cumbersome.
This is one area where Microsoft wins hands down.
Theirs a good example in a jailbreak tweak called weather when it comes to the weather at least. It's called ForeCast
I've attached a couple screenshots with the options switched around.
Can't want for 2017 or 2018 then
It has NO information on it apart from the date and time.So basically not pointless, but simply doesn't have as much information as you would like it to.
