In that half second with touch ID I can be in my phone viewing the same stuff anyway and all using 1 hand not 2.

If apple gave us and OPTION to display stuff on the lock screen we'd all be happy.

It doesn't really take two hands to open the NC. And if Touch ID and launching an app is as fast as a quick swipe from the top then I want to know exactly where you bought your phone because that performance eclipses even desktop speeds.

... I find it a security issue personally. Anyone can pick up my phone and see my next appointment and know where I'm going, read my email (if I had something like Android's Email lock screen widget). Sure they could be protected by a password, but then what's the point.

It's not a bad idea though. If people want it to come to iOS then I think they should let it, but I'd never use it personally, and I know A LOT of people who wouldn't either.

I get the security concerns, though you may find it handy for just non-sensitive information.

It doesn't really take two hands to open the NC. ...

It does on a 6 Plus - too big of a drop risk otherwise. ;)

Options for either..

  1. To keep the state of the notification screen. IE, you pull it down and it stays down next time you view the lock screen.
  2. You can add notification stuff directionally to the home screen. IE calendar info, stocks, weather, reminders etc. An option in each setting "show on lock screen".

Sure options would be good. For 1 hard to see Apple doing it as they might think it can confuse typical users if they are stuck on something and not on the expected lock screen. For 2 it's more or less Apple allowing to have widgets outside of Notification Center in general, and more so on lock screen where they would need to have them up to date all the time and use up more battery. Hard to see Apple going for either one, but who knows what they might do down the line.

When will we be able to see weather and other info on lock screen without sliding the NC down or unlocking the phone and going into relevant app? Much like on windows phone and android. So much wasted space.

I would love to see. Hopefully Apple integrates this.

I wonder how difficult it would be to implement an option whereby a double tap (not double press) of the home button would slide the notification down when the phone is locked - similar to reachability when the phone is unlocked.

Being that we have no proof that our feedback is being completely ignored, we cannot rightly assume they aren't listening. Lack of a reply or implementation can be taken many ways. I prefer to give Apple the benefit of the doubt and assume they are working to implement things in the best possible manner. The fact that our lock screens can be viewed by someone who just stole an iPhone shows that Apple need to consider every possible scenario before implementing this type of feature.

I, for one, wouldn't want someone who just stole my iPhone to know exactly where I will be at a certain time next week via calendar information on my lock screen.
Well, yes!
Imagine this. Is this extremely horrible? :(

Can't you just look up to the sky an see the weather there?

I think the NC implementation is way better than having the phone refresh everything just by turning the screen on to just check the time or notifications.

Go to your local phone shop and pick up a Windows Phone to see how effective and efficient a lock screen can be. Your weather comment is irrelevant. There are thousands of other snippets of data that could be displayed on the lock screen IF you were given the option to.

That's what NC widgets are for.

What they think is this is not so straightforward. They want to get everything needed in a glance, in just a single press of homebutton or power button.
However, simply showing up a clock is better than showing up bunches of information you want or don't want others to see, although double tap to call NC should be better, in lock screen.

That's what NC widgets are for.

We are just going round and round in circles here.

NC widgets are cumbersome.

On and iPhone 6 or 6 plus with your phone locked, it's a 2 handed job to...

  1. Press the home button
  2. Slide the NC into view
  3. Click the notifications tab because the last time you viewed it, it was on the today tab
  4. Scroll down to appointments to see your next next appointment
  5. Press the power button to turn off
You may just as well just..

  1. Press the Touch ID to open the phone
  2. Click calendar. Done. Faster.
On the Windows phone, you pick the phone up PRESS NOTHING and the screen displays whatever you have told it to. Put the phone down and the screen goes off. It's not a full screen, it's a glance screen. It works brilliantly.

If you are afraid of security, then don't enable the feature. It's that simple.

The most you can do with the iPhone lock screen is view the date and time and a picture of your kid. Great!

There are different ways to approach this, too.

Something like what @Pagemakers just posted is akin to moving selected widgets from the Notification Center to the lock screen.

Something like what @CanadaMaple posted is more akin to the "complications" on the Apple Watch face. Much smaller, mini widgets are positioned in the corners of the lock screen, leaving the main screen area largely as it is now.

It wouldn't take Apple much to do it. And I do agree with your opinion on the widgets, way too big for lock screen, give us subtle customizations.

The latter approach would be my preference.

Imagine your phone is sitting on your desk or couch.

You pick it up and look at the screen without touching any button and immediately you know your next appointment, your live stock price, the next program TiVo is going to record and the current station the train is at that you are waiting to meet.

This is very much what complications on the Watch will be able to do in V2, and something that many phones have been cable of for years to a lesser degree. The mind boggles at the dullness of the iPhone lock screen. It could be so good.

But then you wouldn't buy an Apple Watch which has weather right on the main screen at all times! Haha.
