For me it's the ads, I would rather pay to have the ability to skip them with the DVR or not have them in the show at all.
I reported something like this with free VUDU movies, limited commercials as compared to network tv, but still commercials which break the flow of the story.

Agree about the ads. For an hour long show, approximately 1/3 of the time is spent viewing ads. I rarely watch live tv, I record then watch so I can fast forward through the ads.

Are you able to record from Pluto? If there was a way I would be very interested.

This is one advantage of a DVR. I need to get more experience with the Sling cloud based DVR to see how it does with FF though sales pitches.

I love our DVR. I used to think the original DVR, Tivo, was a joke until our provider offered a DVR as a choice for a few dollars more at the time. It's great! They're slowly rolling out cloud DVR for a few bucks more per month, but I can't see us wanting that or needing it. No limit on commercial/ad skips. Which is a good incentive.

I'm dumping FIOS TV after my contract is up to drop to just Internet service. I've got a TiVo Bolt with lifetime service, but I'm going to hand it over to my mom to replace her old TiVo Premiere when my contract is up with Verizon.

We don't watch enough TV, and when we do, it seems like we can't find certain episodes in a season, which is pretty annoying when you want to watch them all in order. While the TiVo is great for what it is, it's the actual service from TV providers that is the weak link for us.

I set up Season 3 of Legion to record on Sling’s cloud based DVR, but then I discovered all of Season 3 is on demand through Sling, but I have to suffer through commercials with this FX show regardless how I watch it. That was an advantage of recorded shows on the Tivo box I got through Suddenlink.

I had not heard the term Fios (fiber optic) tv until you mentioned it and I looked it up. I imagine Internet comes over that too, but not where I live (Houston, Suddenlink provider).

AT&T offers fiber-optic service in Houston. Their Uverse internet is fiber.

AT&T Internet is not yet available for my address and I wonder if it will ever be. Do the cable companies have neighborhoods carved out as their own? Or can anyone invade if they want to invest?

Just saw an ad on Sling TV for Fox Thursday Night Football Live on Amazon Prime. Anyone watched this or tried to watch it?

I officially cut cable and converted over to YouTube TV. My Samsung smart TV already has the built-in app, so that was a pretty easy transition. The upstairs TV, I actually had to purchase a Roku stick to make the conversion, but everything has been completely seamless. I really like how YouTube TV offers the DVR service, and of course I can stream anything right from
my iPad or iPhone ‘on the go.’ It’s only $49.99 a month, which I think is fair for the amount of channels they actually offer (And has plethora of other channels I didn’t have before.) The biggest drawback I can see so far, is if your Wi-Fi goes out of service for any reason, so does Youtube TV. [Versus prior with Cable, if the Wi-Fi went out, I still would have access to my cable channels.]

The only thing I’m committed to with my cable provider, is the Wi-Fi network in my house, which has been solid for the price. ($74.00 monthly for the fastest speed offered.)

I’ll have to compare Sling channels to You Tube.

I am irritated. I forgot to watch The Sinner Season 3 in March, then I got exited when I found this series on demand on Sling TV (USA network) and it said 12 episodes, but there only 3 of these are real episodes. The rest are “inside the episode” episodes. So why would they have just the first 3 episodes for an 8 episode season available, to torment their viewers? 🤯 I’m not buying the other 5 episodes for $3 each...

So why would they have just the first 3 episodes for an 8 episode season available, to torment their viewers?

This is typical of USA and a bunch of other networks. They often have about 5 weeks of episodes available to watch for free (ad-supported), and they take them off around the sixth week mark.

I suspect the reason is because they want viewers to watch them live or around the time of the original air date.

This might have to due to a few reasons, such as contracts with content providers and/or advertisers, more accurate ratings and viewership numbers, extra revenue from people like you that might buy/rent an episode because they missed it, etc.

I personally think that it is an outdated way of viewing shows, and releasing whole seasons at a time is a much better way of watching TV.

July 2020 Streaming

Note some channels are not important to me, but too my wife. I probably forgot one or two in this list:

Cable channels that usually require a subscription to a cable provider:
Important channels we used to get from cable.
  • AMC
  • Hallmark
  • HGTV
  • MSNBC
  • TCM Turner Classic Movies
  • Live Football Channels: Fox, ABC, ESPN, NBC?
Streaming channels:
  • Acorn (paid)- Shows from the UK.
  • Amazon Prime (paid)- includes favorable shipping on merchandise.
  • Disney (paid)- 1 year subscriotion, hoping my wife has this out of her system by next Spring. ;)
  • Netflix (paid)
  • Sling TV (streams cable channels from above list)- Always considering alternatives..
Short term binge watch subscriptions for specific series:
  • Apple TV+
  • CBS All Access
  • HBO Now
  • HULU
We’ve been subscribed to Sling for over a year now, but am looking at alternatives. It’s hard to find that first set of channels from one service.

I finally got rid of FiOS TV service from Verizon. After looking at what was out there for streaming TV, we decided to go with YouTube TV. Two days after our free trial ended, the price went up $15 because they added a bunch of TV channels we don't watch. Not thrilled with the YouTube TV interface that everyone seems to rave about. We find ourselves often pressing the menu/back button over and over to drop back to live TV or the guide. I also don't understand why the episodes are often in a scrambled order for a season, either, and not in chronological order. Unskippable commercials are annoying, especially when you see "Ad 1 of 5" in the corner.

So what is the YouTube TV bill? Thanks! :)
I’m looking for:

I believe YouTube TV recently raised their rates to a minimum of $65 per month.
