What do you think about the iMac M3 base model compared to the Mac Pro 2013 for 4k editing?
I am thinking in this option because my monitor is dead.
You should consider at least 512GB storage since those models have better SSD performance than the base model with 256GB.

More RAM would be helpful as well.

All true, but it will run circles around your Mac Pro. Not even the same category.

Finally the new iMac!!! It is time to leave the Mac Pro.

Thinking in the iMac M4 base model for Final Cut 4k video edition for amateur works.

It will be enough for me?

Maybe have a look at the new Mini, it looks great and you can use your own monitor(s) instead of being limited by the built in 24" of the current iMac models.

The problem is that I don’t have monitor anymore (dead…).
I really like the mini M4 Pro, it is a beast with a high memory bandwidth, Thunderbolt 5, a lot of cores…
But my budget right now is so limited.

😂… yeah, it's so "limiting", right?

Feel free to show me a comparable monitor in size and quality that costs less than the entire iMac. Add to that the superb keyboard and mouse that the Mini does not have either and the Mini quickly shows how utterly overpriced it is in comparison, beyond maybe the base model.

Never mind that you can connect multiple "unlimiting" monitors to it if need be. 🙄

Even an M1 would do exponentially more than you could want.
The question is… how more po

Yes… I agree with you. The iMac screen has no comparison and the speakers are not so bad for casual use…

The ‘one cable’ philosophy over the desk is pretty atractive too.

But the mini M4 Pro is a real beast!

I have a Mac Pro 6,1 that I'm using for video editing 1080i AVCHD for fun. Definitively should consider an M1 iMac on the used market for 4k video. Lots of people are going to be offloading theirs with the new processor generation coming out.

Sure. Once you upgrade it past the level of an iMac. Since how else is a Mini going to somehow be more of "a beast" than an iMac, when they literally have the exact same specs? And anything past that (which only leaves the maxed out Pro) is just plain a waste of money in comparison.

The only time a Mini can make any sense IMHO is if you either have loads of money already invested in (even better) screens and other peripherals, OR you want/need to run it headless. Other than that… nope.

I think any generation mini Pro would be a great option, especially if you can find a used LG 5k monitor to go with it. I was an iMac true believer for years when they made the 27 inch model, but I've been disappointed by the 24 inch model. The 27 inch iMacs could be configured to be quite powerful. I think between a used mini pro and a used 5k display, you can get everything you would need, and then you get to keep the monitor the next time you upgrade. I use my MBP with monitors going back to the dell 4k that went with my work Mac Pro trashcan.
