In my imagination
EXPEED is a concept, not a particular technology.

For example the P50 is an EXPEED camera, and a sample I've seen it's not so impressive.

It's not longer a concept being that it's sitting inside the D300, D3, D60, P5100 and a few other Coolpix cameras right now.

I wouldn't hold the IQ of a point and shoot against a DSLR at any time... the sensors are far too small to being with.

Here:

Unlike image-processing engines or systems, EXPEED does not deal with specific parts or features. Rather, it refers to Nikon’s original comprehensive concept of digital image processing.

From what I see, Nikon is touting Expeed as both a concept and an image processor,

The EXPEED image processing system is at the heart of the D3’s ability to capture and process massive amounts of data at high definition. The EXPEED system includes both hardware and years of Nikon image processing experience. The D3 EXPEED system features 14-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion with 16-bit image processing, both of which contribute to delivering results with Nikon’s signature ‘look and feel’ of rich accurate colours, smooth skin gradations and exceptional detail.

So I will have to see a much more reliable review of the D60 to see if that chip is inside the D60, or just the D300 and D3.

Maybe it's now also the name of a family of processors, not just one.
