Yes, I have been using virtual machines since 1976, and I am very appreciative of the concept. :)

Thank you for your reply. I understand that things work better when running on the bare metal rather than virtually, and different implementations bring different capabilities, e.g. Parallels versus VMware.

My question was related to Crossfire, since you specifically mentioned "Not a VM", you piqued my curiosity - do any implementations of virtual machines support Crossfire today? If so, does it help?

Thank you for any insight,

A.

I've seen posts about vm and gaming questions. So that's why I put it in there. I haven't kept up with vm technology but I'd be concerned about memory limits. No idea about crossfire in VM but it does seem to be enabled under bootcamp.

I know you need at least Windows Server 2012 with hyper-V and a special feature enabled to enable DirectX 11 GPUs acceleration through VM

In that particular case a Mac Pro might not be the best suited machine to run Windows Server.

Thanks. That sounds like a "No" for most normal folks.

Super quick question for the D700 owners in Windows 8.1

Are you installing the 'Desktop' drivers (ie. Catalyst suite) or are you running the workstation specific drivers for FirePro W9000? I'm mostly looking for gaming performance under Windows Boot Camp.

Thanks!!

If you want gaming performance download the latest Radeon Catalyst ones. They'll drastically improve game performance, but mangle professional performance.

Btw I checked my xfire frame rates in BF4:

Everything set to ultra, at 1440p I get avg 55fps on the machine from my signature. This is using mantle.
