So I've been having multiple kernel panics on a daily basis ever since I upgraded to Catalina and after a week of going back and forth with Apple, their engineers have concluded that my Crucial RAM is causing the panics. Which is weird because I have never had any panics when I was using Mojave.
And so they have asked me to buy a new set of RAMs.

Is this just me or does this sound like a huge load of bullcrap?
It seems to me they're just passing the buck to something else.

Has anyone been experiencing the same problem with 3rd party RAMs?

The Crucial RAM works perfectly in my 2019 iMac. Do you have the original RAM in there as well? Have you tried it with just the original RAM only installed?

Another thought is that you can get a swapout of your crucial RAM, as it also has warrantee. (So you would try different sticks) Do that, especially if the original RAM works fine.

Catalina has been causing a lot of people a lot of problems (myself included). All I can say is that I haven't agreed with the Apple techs diagnosis in all cases. From what I've read it looks like they are throwing darts at a list which always puts the customer at fault, thus not costing them time or money.

That said, if they've narrowed down the problem to something that specific, it's worth doing some tests of your own on the RAM.

My system (unsupported Mac Pro 5,1, but with upgraded cards and an unpatched system w. SIP enabled) was ultra stable including sleep. But close to the final beta Catalina started crashing during nightly sleep. Stable doing the day. But I think the system is not yet ready for prime time.

How about copying the latest KP to your clipboard and post it here for us to look at? Maybe the combined talent we have at MacRumors can figure something out for you. Also as a test... you might boot to safe mode to see if it panics there too. If it doesn't in safe mode, that would likely eliminate a software problem at least. I don't believe the Crucial modules are the cause.

If you have a spare drive, like a 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive or something, please connect it and install a fresh MacOS on it. Then boot to that. This will eliminate (or point the finger at) something about your current installation (corruption, weird settings, weird drivers, other cruft accumulating over time). If the KP happens on the fresh install as well, the problem is almost certainly hardware.

If you can't do this, please post a screenshot of the list of installed KEXTs. This is not nearly as good, but someone might see a known problematic driver.

This is also a known issue with the Vega GPUs. So if the OP has one, that’s likely the issue.

No, I got the 580.

Yeah, I went through a clean install and I’m still having them. At this point I’m thinking of giving up and downgrading to Mojave

Did you try running for a while in safe mode? You need to lock down whether it's hardware or software causing the panics. The panic report shows nothing definitive that I could see.

How can it possibly be a hardware issue? Mojave and Windows 10 never crash, even when I put more stress on the computer with my work.

The quote above that you replied to was for the original poster not you. If you're having a problem, start a new thread. Not everyone's situation or experience is the same as yours.

Uhhhh my issue can be the same as the OP. I have started threads. Went to Reddit, Apple Discussions, and other sites not just here. They all have mentioned hardware issues or I just get no responses at all.

I even spent days on the phone with Apple Support and they have no ideas. I ran my iMac with only keyboard and mouse connected (no multiple monitors, no external hard drives, nothing). And I still get it. Yet Mojave and Windows 10 never fail.

How do you know my situation is not the same as the OP? I have been trying to fix this crappy OS since it was released and I CANNOT do my work on it. I stick with Mojave and Windows 10 because, guess what, they do not crash at all. NEVER. If it is some hardware issue, what could it possibly be that you are thinking it is when other operating systems have ZERO issues?

One thing I do agree with you is - sticking with Mojave for now. I have a bootable SSD (Samsung T5) with Catalina that I test with. As for your kernel panics, sometimes they can be hard to track down. Catalina has extra security built in and even divides your Macintosh HD into two containers: One for the system, the other for your data. That makes it even harder to determine where the crashes originate from. Catalina is reminding me more and more of the infamous Windows version of Vista which was buggy. And by the way, your previous post said nothing of the trouble you were having which makes it kind of hard for us to try to help. Have you tried running is safe mode to see if the crashes occur there also?

Well I did not even know what a kernel panic was as, for the past 20 years, I have never seen one. Yes, it happens in safe mode. It only happens when I have my external monitors connected and only when the screen saver/monitor goes to sleep occurs.

From what I have been able to research, the Vega 48 has this issue.

Kernel panics occurring in safe mode are almost always attributed to a hardware problem of some sort. The reason being is that safe mode only loads those Apple required kexts for the OS and nothing else. I'm guessing here but it would seem to be something that maybe your GPU doesn't like when you have your external monitors connected and they sleep. By the way, back in the days of Windows, we called kernel panics BSODs.

Do you have a Vega 48 GPU?

But why doesn’t Mojave or Windows 10 crash? Even if I put WAY more stress on the system - even with the extra monitors. Yes I have Vega 48.

Similar issues reported:
iMac keeps crashing after Catalina upgrade
Since installing Catalina yesterday, multiple crashes from userspace watchdog timeout
Random restarts after upgrading to 10.15 (Macbook Pro 2019 15inch)
and this thread

I'm having the issue as well, crashes in sleep/will not wake up - kernel panics.

Hoping 10.15.1 fixes the issue.
This is very disappointing. 20 years I have used Apple products and have never had an issue until now. Not only that, this issue seems only common with higher end models. So we spend $4,000+ on a system to have it crash, and others, running 2013 hardware have no issues?!
