Damn you apple! i got a new intel iMac

Okay I was walking down the street and saw an apple reseller, I was just looking around which I thought was a bad mistake since I really wanted the new Intel iMacs. At first I stayed away from them but slowly I started to walk closer and closer. I started playing with it and as soon as the sales man stood beside me before he could say anything I yelled, "I will take it". By the I realized what I have done it was to late, I got my friend to came and pick me up and I was on my way home.

I went and setup my new "20 iMac and transferred my info onto it. As I started it up I realized it was faster then the normal Macs I am used to, it was great. Yesterday I bought some TV shows from iTunes so I thought I would watch a bit with frontrow. The remote is very small, its much thinner then the ipod shuffle and is a bit shorter as well. I clicked menu and this amazing animation came up which I am sure a lot of you have seen on the apple website. I picked the TV show I wanted and BAM it worked, after watching for a few mines I decided to play some music and guys let me tell you ITS GREAT. Frontrow is truly a very nice piece of software. All I can say is I stopped doing everything and wrote this review or whatever this is.

Here are a few things I noticed.

Good:

- Very quite, I can hear a pin drop.
- The screen is much sharper and brighter.
- Apple apps startup much faster.
- The ports (USB, Firewire extra) are laid out from right to left, which is much better then from top to bottom.
- The isight camera is amazing, very clear ad you don’t notice it.
- No dead pixels at all, not even one.
- World of Warcraft plays amazingly well, very high frames per sec and looks much much better then it did on my friends Powermac G5.

Bad:

- Office takes longer to start.
- I only have 512 mb RAM that I will have to work on till I get some more. I think 1GB is the minimum.
- Runs slower when opening other none apple apps. I know this wont be the case for long after the software developers change their code.

All in all I am very happy with my new Mac, thank god I bought apple sock over a year ago, which I made +120% on :).

Just one question - would you be willing to talk to my wife? I'm hoping to wait until the Rev. Bs, but everytime I think about them I don't know if I can make it.

Yeah, Apple sucks for making you buy a shiny new 20" iMac Core Duo! ;)

How are the fans on that thing?

Very quite, in order for me to hear anything i need to put my ears right on the desktop. I have not been doing anything heavy with it but the sound of teh external hard drive blocks anything that comes out of the imac. Pulling the plug from the external HD makes me hear a mouse squeek from the otherside of the room.

Of course since quite is a perfectly valid word, a spellchecker wouldn't be of very much use here...

On topic. I've been finding it harder and harder to resist the pull of the 17" Core Duo iMac. (I want it to replace the kids' game PC in the living room, so smaller is better). I'm still really waiting for the mini or whatever will replace it, but the waiting is becoming marginally bearable.

Right now I'm waiting to see if anything is really going to be announced on Feb. 22, and will try to hold out until April, but it's hard not whipping out the plastic when I go to the Apple store and play around with the new iMacs.

Kingsly: I apologize for my bad spelling, its something I am working on very hard but i never realy payed much attention to when I was in school.

balamw: The iMac is very nice indeed but i dont recommend it as a gaming machine. An Xbox or a playstation would be much better.

My kids are 2 and 4 years old so the games they play are not very demanding. ;) They currently use my old PIII 750 MHz.

All I need is to be able to boot XP and I'd replace it instantly.

And thus I did. Yip. Say hello to my freshly ordered 20" iMac.

conradzoo: You wont be sorry, only problemi see is the lack on software from developers.

balamw: If there is a way for me to dual boot from OS X to Windows i will never buy another PC or even thing of getting one.

I am going to bed now, as any more questions from my fellow macrumors would have to wait to be answered would have to wait till i get up in 6 hours :)
 
yep, i impulse-bought the nano after intending to "just see it"...

get more ram. if you think 1GB might be enough, go for 2GB!

i just bought a refurbished eyetv 200 on elgato's website so now my imac will also be a DVR! nice.
 
Yeah, condemn Apple for making it so irresistible that you couldn't control yourself and making the purchase... *grin* That's why I haven't been to the Apple Store since the announcement.

Congrats on your new acquisition!

Ah, what amazing power Apple has over us- the ability to seemingly make us purchasing whatever goods our eyes fall upon. ;) :)

You, me, and all the other people who have contributed to the > $11K reward. ;)

I am confident we will soon (a relative term), either be able to boot XP/Vista natively or at least run some Windows apps using virtualization VMWare/Xen/VPC or Darwine/Crossover Office/Cedega.

hey crazycat im glad you wrote this article it's good to hear such good things about the 20" intel iMac because I just ordered one that should ship in a couple days. I was worried about the problems that some people were experiencing with front row but well see home it works soon enough.

Being a lousy typist I make similar mistakes as well. You wouldn't beleive, um believe, the words I have misspelled. But I might advise that you follow your own advice.

Can you tell us a bit on your web experience? And how great is the new iLife? iWeb looks quite (not quiet, boy was a careful on that one! ;)) sweet:cool:
