I see - I was considering more the software protocols. Do M and B keying come into play?
Yes:

  • M2 format with B key connectors are for SATA blades,
  • M2 format with M key connectors are for AHCI and NVMe blades,
  • M2 format with no keys are for both.
I know just one controller that support both AHCI/NVMe and SATA blades, the Synology M2D18. No one else supports this.

Same as SATAIII, since it's a SATA drive into the M2 format. Today you won't find a new SATA M2 blade, just pulls.

I thought so.. as raid I would probablly get around 700 mb/s which is pretty much the speed of the OWC card.
I guess the OWC card works the same.
