I just called UPS to see if they had an estimated delivery date on my iPad because my tracking number just showed an Origin scan and nothing else and the girl I spoke to automatically knew it was an iPad and said due to a special agreement with Apple that I would receive it by the end of the day on Saturday. I was hoping it'd come early because I saw other people post that they were told theirs would be delievered on Thursday. I'm kinda mad the girl said by the "end of the day on Saturday", I was hoping for "it'll be delievered Saturday early AM" or something like that.

How would she know if it was going to be AM or PM? Think about it for a second.

The UPS trucks going out very early...4am 5am...and start their routes. I think they start delivering at 7am..so some will get it very early but it obviously takes time to get to everyone, so it just depends on where on the route your house is.

And I dont know why you would expect it to get it before Saturday when it says on Apple's website APRIL 3RD.

well this needed a new thread as much as UPS needs the inundation of calls about iPads.

I can just imagine the reps in the office..

"Oh f'n great - Apple is releasing a new product early this month. Maybe I'll use vacation time to avoid the fanatics constantly calling for updates and to try and weasel an earlier delivery"

Saturday delivery is your purchase agreement with Apple. There was no time in your pre-order information. It will get there, when it does

I don't know how UPS "wised up". This has happened in the past with iPhone releases, and everyone always thinks theirs are coming early but then they don't.

What did they wise up about? The fact that they're sticking to a policy that was established before the iPad was even announced? Real sneaky UPS, real sneaky.

To be honest what else could she say? If she said it would be delivered by Saturday AM and it didn't you'd be annoyed. No best to cover their backs and say 'delivery by the end of the day.'

Drivers start between 8:30 and 9:00 with the exception of EAM drivers who usually start at 6:30 and the ipads are not being shipped for early morning delivery.

Drivers never start at 4:00 or 5:00 because they have to wait for the air
to arrive at their building. Actual ipad deliveries should start between 8-9am
and continue throughout the day.

They do have special deliveries that are guranteed to be there Early morning, Apple could have opted to go that route to make the customers happy.

And they wised up because a few days ago people said they were calling UPS and the representatives weren't acting like they knew it was the iPad and were telling people that it shipped and should be delievered as early as Thursday. So apparently UPS wasn't "properly told" that the iPads would be delivered on Saturday.

Before 5pm....

AFAIK...

UPS policy is anything that is NOT next day air (2 day blue or 3 day 'orange') is before 5pm...they only garruntee morning delivery on a next day air or early AM delivery...

YMMV...

Yep, good point...

If you are in a hurry it is OK with me if they run by your house before they come to mine :)

I don't know why I am even bothering to reply and defend myself but I'm doing it anyway.
I know the website says April 3rd. I know UPS doesn't have to deliver it anytime specific on Saturday. I know I won't receive it before April 3rd....

But.....

I am really really really anxious to get mine. And when I see other posts of people saying that they called and were told their iPad would be delivered on Thursday, it makes me get even more anxious thinking there is a possibility that it could come early. All in all I just wish Saturday would hurry up and get here. I don't understand where all the hatred comes from where everyone thinks they have to reply with demeaning comments. Aren't you just as excited as I am for it? Sheesh, what is the world coming to when no matter what you post, you get bashed.

In my area (NYC) they don't go out on Sat. until frakking 8am. What's up wit that?!

Ground deliveries do not have daily time guarantees drivers often deliver until 7:00-8:00 at night. Normally the Saturday commit time is 12:00 but will be extended for the ipad release.

Yeah, each rep seems to have a different answer, some say Thursday, some say Friday and some say by the end of the business day (whatever that means, business hours on Saturday?). In the end I believe that everyone will get their iPad this Saturday because that's what your "invoice" says (on April 3).

Realize delivery agreements are with the shipper and not the receiver.

I am sure that Apple has a specific contract that spells out the terms of the delivery process, and has nothing to do with their standard rules or guidelines for shipping.
