Does anyone know anything yet about how pricing will work for iPad when you already have an iPhone? I'm going to be getting my first iPhone when the next one comes out. I'm curious whether or not I'll have to pay extra for 3G service to an iPad as well. Anyone know anything about how data service to iPad + iPhone owners is planned to work out?

OP, AT&T has not released any details about this.
However, know that the current Apple supported iPhone tethering software is over bluetooth and when you set it up with you computer, it creates a special type of network connection. I do not believe you can officially tether an iPhone to an iPod touch right now.
Also, AT&T does not allow tethering whatsoever at this current moment.
So in essence, yes I do not believe there will ever be tethering between iPhone/iPad, hence two charges for data. 1 for your iPad and 1 for your iPhone.

There's this great feature on most computers manufactured since 1990, where it automatically puts the text on the next line, that way we don't have to manually insert line breaks and have our text look foolish and hard to read.
Gotta love innovation.
If you aren't willing to pay for two data plans ever, then just get the Wifi version. If you want 3G on your iPad, you have three ways to go about it
1. Jailbreak iPhone. Install MyWi. Done.
2. Buy 3G iPad. Pay AT&T.
3. Buy some sort of MiFi device.
Thats it, and that's all.

That was originally my plan, until I realized every iPhone I get I'd have to re-buy MyWi as it's locked to a device. Also, who knows if they will be able to jailbreak iPhones in the future.
I'd rather spend the $130 up front and not rely on a second device for an internet connection
Well, not to sound like a jerk, but mobile.macrumors.com works really well in countering this problem. You still have to pinch to zoom out slightly, but the text is much more readable since it's not such a huge text box.
Its option 1 for me. There's really no need to buy the 3g version.
As for backup if MyWi doesn't work on the Iphone due to jailbreak issues, I can use my Nokia E71 or E75 with Joikuspot or Walking Hotspot as an alternative wifi connection.
To add..I think the future model will be everyone having their own hotspots with multiple devices connecting to it for Data needs. Of course, the Telco's would hate this but Sprint is already going to this model with MiFi.
Microsim makes more sense in the iPhone than the iPad where the size is constrained. But I tend to believe that the reason microsim was used in the iPad was to make it difficult for people to swap sims. I'd do this for sure. I read online that microsims are the same but have less plastic around the actual chip. So all you would need to do is cut it down to microsim size and either A.) Keep the cutout and rig some sort of adapter out of it to put it back into the iPhone or B.) Wait for some 3rd party solution for a new microsim tray adapter for iPhone.
I wouldn't pay for an iPad data plan unless I was on vacation, but I'd buy a 3g version if I could swap my iPhone sim. I really don't use the phone part of the iPhone a whole lot, and if someone called, I could just check VM later. Not a big deal. My wife usually emails me to get a hold of me anyway. Everyone else is really non-essential at this point since I'm a student.
Unless the next iPhone is a magical, must have, cure for cancer type of device I'll be sticking with my 3GS. Also I never update my firmware until the dev team says that the firmware has been fully jailbroken and it's safe to update. I don't see jailbreaking being completely stopped just slowed down a bit by new devices and new security features.
Agreed, agreed and agreed. But I don't want to take that chance. I'd much rather have the option to do 3G then not.
I'd hate to be somewhere, and all of a sudden my iPhone conks out and there goes Internet on both iPhone and iPad, when I can have iPad as a backup option. Again, possibilities for all this are slim to none.
But GPS is also an important feature of an app I'm designing and that is only in the 3G model for the iPad. So I don't want to be left out of features for future iPad programs.
iPad (wifi only) to iPhone tethering is a no-brainer. If the phone companies and Apple don't get it sorted, I'm sooooo going to JB my 3GS...

I meant $130 one-time fee (for the added capability) for the 3G capability in the iPad.
Verizon and Sprint sell them and I don't know any idea on the prices.
