AT&T got too greedy for me. Between the iPhone data plan, the yet-to-be-disclosed tethering charge, and the iPad data plan, I booted the whole thing and went Verizon MiFi. $60 and I can connect up to 5 things through WiFi (including the iPhone incidentally). Plus my Archos 5IT, my PSP, my wife's Nintendo DS, my laptop, her laptop, my buddy's laptop.... :D

And my 64GB WiFi iPad...

Ummm...good luck connecting those 8 things? Unless I misunderstood the stated 5 device limitation...

The Pay as you go option seems more streetwise for someone like myself who would very rarely travel with it, but If need be I can just buy it when I need it!

Although it would be nice to have a shared plan, I'm fine with it's own. I'm starting with the 250MB plan and see how things progress from there.

If you aren't willing to pay for two data plans ever, then just get the Wifi version. If you want 3G on your iPad, you have three ways to go about it

1. Jailbreak iPhone. Install MyWi. Done.
2. Buy 3G iPad. Pay AT&T.
3. Buy some sort of MiFi device.

Thats it, and that's all.

doing #1 right now.

At&t got to big for their britches and are laming out on me. Glad i'm OOC.

VZW Mifi kinda sucks with the 5gb limit. Are they serious for 60 bucks? lol.
I'll have to read some reviews on this. Check batt life etc.

NB: MyWi is a battery HOG. As in, you can practically watch your battery % dropping, and not in a time-lapse photography sort of way. For the most part, don't even bother using it unless your iPhone is plugged into power. This obviously materially decreases its usefulness.

Beyond that, for sure we will have to pay an additional fee beyond the data plan on the iPhone.

ATT currently charges $60/mo for other smartphone tethering plans (they offer it for most smartphones excluding the iPhone). So actually, $30/each for iPhone and iPad is 100% consistent with current rates charged by ATT.

It is possible, though not super likely, that ATT gives some kind of a bundle price break, say $50 or $55, but I wouldn't count on it!

Yeah, hence my decision to go for the 3G iPad :).

Yeah me too. Even if I swap into rev B one year later for whatever reason, amortizing the $130 premium for 3G, at $11/month, is well worth having the 3G radio built in. For me anyway.

I'm also contemplating getting the $499 version too, just to have around the house however :D.

Does anyone know anything yet about how pricing will work for iPad when you already have an iPhone? I'm going to be getting my first iPhone when the next one comes out. I'm curious whether or not I'll have to pay extra for 3G service to an iPad as well. Anyone know anything about how data service to iPad + iPhone owners is planned to work out?

Did you try calling AT&T? I doubt if they either have an answer or willing to give you one at this point in time but it's worth trying I suppose. If they do give you an answer I hope you come back here and post it :)

Yes, there is a 5 concurrent device connection limitation. I can connect 1,000 devices, but only 5 at a time.

I can live with that. I only have two hands. :D
