Datacase vs Mobilefinder

I have just bought and tried out both Datacase and Mobilefinder. They are VERY similar in functionality, so here is my summary of differences with + and - :

Datacase
- can not handle Swedish characters (åäö) in folders and file names
+ turns to landscape mode when iPhone is turned
+ nicer and snappier user interface

Mobilefinder

+ handles Swedish characters correctly
- computed it to be three times as long to transfer 700+ files to the iPhone (22 minutes instead of 7 minutes).
- and then it ended with an error, many files were not at all transferred
- several messages on "running low on memory"

So I will stay with Datacase, seems better and more robust. Hopefully they will adapt to handle international characters. If not, I will convince my wife to change the names of the files and folders for her 715 recipes...

Yes it does, but don't forget to note the xfer times the OP posted above and the fact that MF requires FTP or browser plugin to work. DC automatically shows up in Finder and allows instant drag and drop (on a Mac). No secondary apps required.

Can't email the files out with Datacase yet, so I suppose if you're in a place without wireless then you'll have trouble transferring files out. For most files (e.g. documents, pictures, video) you can play/view them nicely with Datacase though on the iPhone.

But I need to get those files out by email and not just to a computer by Wi-Fi. :|

DataCase & Numbers

I'm using DataCase with a lot of Numbers (iWork spreadsheet) files. In the "save as" dialog there's an option to include a preview -- the preview is a PDF which DataCase does find and read. DataCase's doc filter helps avoid wading through the file packages.

Not real iWork support, but a workaround until they (hopefully) provide it. Keynote has this preview function too, unsure about Pages.

I would like to update my comparison as follows:

Datacase
+ will support international characters in file names in next release
Mobilefinder´
+ will have landscape mode in next release

In addition I see the following advantages for Mobilefilnder
+ possibility to move and copy files once in the iPhone
+ create/edit text files

But it still crashes during the very very slow transfer of 700 files...

I've been able to view large pictures at full resolution using Datacase. So now instead of printing out the directions from Google maps, I can just screenshot it and transfer it to Datacase, then view the full sized maps and directions from there.

Datacase appears to allow password protection per volume - I assume this applies to access from your mac/pc and not onthe iPhone. Does Mobilefinder have a similar access control feature? I don't want my iPhone data accessible by just anyone!

+1 for MobileFinder working fine with 2.0.2.

But then, it doesn't really depend on Apple software to transfer files to and from my computer -- I'm just using an ftp client within my desktop backup / synchronization program.

I got DataCase working. I deleted the application and then I loaded onto my iphone again and it seems to work perfectly.

AFAIK:

Datacase: No create/edit

Mobilefinder: Create/edit for text files only

There are a ton of posts answering this already, including the first post in this thread, but my reasons...

DataCase uses bonjour, this is unique in comparison to the other file apps, particularly File Magnet, which requires you install additional software to actually upload files. You don't have to use ftp or anything. Just make sure the comp and the device are on the same network and open up finder to drag and drop files. It's really slick and easy.

While the home screen of DataCase could use some work in terms of improving aesthetics, I like the fact that I can see a breakdown of document type and storage space they're taking. I'm pretty anal about organizing files and whatnot, so this helps me out.

I have purchased both Datacase and MobileFinder. I think they both need some work, but both get the job done.

I like MobileFinder's interface more but don't like that it requires an FTP connection to transfer files. MobileFinder's viewer is also better in my usage.

Database has the potential for more customization with access control and transferring is better since it needs no other software. Like everyone else has laid, it does need an interface uplift. It has work well for me for the most part other than some copy problems initially.

I don't know if any app of this type is substantially ahead of the others as of right now.

I haven't tried DataCase, but from what I understand, it uses ftp to connect to Windows machines. Which means that if you are using a Windows computer, DataCase doesn't offer any advantage over the other file transfer programs as far as transferring files is concerned.
