Got this Apple Watch to enjoy in Greece this summer special with its scuba capabilities and etc…etc… the minute it hit the salt water yesterday … it went dead @ 10cm (centimeters ) can you imagine using this 100meter deep diving warranted watch letting you go while on a dive !!….. Extremely Disappointed with this apple product …. Ok apple would replace it when we get back … but it had ruin the part of the vacation that you waiting for a year who replaces that …..!!!
This what I call Great piece of **** technology … apples quality testing must gone to sh..t , do they actually test their products … ? that are made for 100 meter depth…!!
To say the truth the minute it hit the water the “oceanic” program auto-activated , asking to pay extra subscription to include all special capabilities ….. then it all went dead…
Is that because I did not select yes pay more !!!! ;(

If true, that’s unfortunate.

However, there are two ways to provide feedback. Uncivilized way and civilized way. You should try latter.

Regarding the ruined experience. Maybe it would be worthwhile to focus on vacationing and, for example, wonderful nature. If the vacation is ruined because of some gadget, there is something wrong with the attitude, imho. That’s the problem with people nowadays. Can’t enjoy your time without the freakin’ gadgets.

Very unlikely. I assume that nothing happens when you try a hard reset (side button, crown for 10 seconds)?

I am sorry this happened to you. If you are considering having it serviced in Athens, I know an authorized service provider I've had great help from in the past. That might not be a good idea depending on the duration of your stay, I am just throwing it out there.

Try a hard reset! It usually solves the uncommon ‘dark screen’ issue. Also: does it still show in the watch app as connected? In Find My?

It’s not made for 100m depth. But sorry that happened. Sometimes products do fail, which is why Apple offers a warranty. I’m sure a quick conversation with Apple could sort it?
That's not the point, though, is it? If you took your car out on the highway and did 60mph and it suddenly crapped out, you wouldn't be like "it happens, sometimes cars fail". This person didn't push it to its limits, they simply took it in an environment it was partly designed for.

In fact, if my car suddenly crapped out at 60mph, I would most definitely be like „it happens, sometimes cars fail“ - because it‘s exactly like that - sometimes cars fail, for whatever reason.

If the OP’s AWU really failed, something was wrong with it and Apple will surely replace it in that case.

A car that is a few months old leaving you stranded on the highway? Really? Then you must be as Zen as Dalai Lama. Of course products will fail and of course Apple will replace this – once again that's not the point. The point is relatively new products shouldn't just suddenly fail in an environment they were designed for. And if they do, then you have every right to be revolted and question the producer's quality testing.

Actually the blower motor for my fan just failed. I wasn't trying to create a hurricane condition inside the car or anything just using it normally. It's under warranty. Nobody died. They're replacing it next week. I didn't need to take to social media for justice, I just had a warranty repair organized. It happens, sometimes cars (or their parts) fail. It sucks, but it happens.

I’ve hit both 13,000 ft (skydiving) and -25meters (scuba) with mine, in the same week and it worked flawlessly as advertised.

You probably have a lemon. I’d recommend going to Apple to give them your feedback so they can improve the product.

Sorry to hear that OP. My problem has been much more minor, but the frequency with which the digital crown gets stuck (mine is just AW7) makes me suspect the use of all AWs around sand, including the Ultra perhaps, needs a lot of work. And it doesn’t seem to justify their Ipx7 rating or whatever it’s called… perhaps that’s water/dust only? Anyway, I didn’t even take mine to the beach for swimming (just wading) most recently, and again the crown turns very poorly. After a while it fixes itself (or I eventually get lucky with a soft toothbrush in cleaning it) but it’s a pretty regular annoyance that I bought it to use it, but it feels like when going anywhere near the ocean I should just take it off to avoid the hassle of de-sanding it.

AWU QC is excellent but not perfect. Get over it; Apple will repair or replace.

As to "can you imagine using this 100meter deep diving warranted watch letting you go while on a dive" the answer is yes, as a dive instructor one plans for such events. In fact gear is always ad hoc tested just below the surface as every dive commences; display blackout at 10 cm depth may actually be a safety feature kicking in before the dive starts if everything is not fully operational.

FYI "100meter deep diving warranted watch" is incorrect. The AWU watch is intended for sport diving to ~40 meters (SCUBA only if the Oceanic app is added) but is pressure-only warranted to 100 meters.

Also FYI your observation that "the “oceanic” program auto-activated , asking to pay extra subscription to include all special capabilities" is also totally appropriate. Users need to be reminded that although the AWU functions great as a free dive watch right out of the box, SCUBA dive computer functions require adding a pay app from Oceanic. One would not want some ignorant user who failed to understand and pre-dive test a life-critical tool to be able to claim that they were harmed at depth because they thought they were using a fully operational SCUBA dive computer...

Op is venting. Letting his frustration out. I agree, I don’t usually let my dining experience or gadget ruin my vacation or dates.

Hopefully OP had a better day today (since it is now evening in Greece), so maybe, maybe we get an update that is going to have some more details … where/when did they get the watch, have they tried it out before going on vacation and such…

OP can trade watches with me. OP can have my fully functional AWU for his defective AWU if I can be in the ocean in Greece...

It’s called life. Unfortunate events can happen. No matter how much you spend, there is no 100%.

Greece is not close to an ocean.
:) Fair enough! How about just a warm body of salt water, like a sea or a bay or whatever? No beach necessary, I am a lifetime water rat with many thousands of hours swimming and diving mostly from the rocks of the USA west (left) coast. We can skip the Salton Sea and the Great Salt Lake...
