There are already discounts on gen 2 - for example, Best Buy credit card holders can buy the gen 2 for $720 with coupon code Q3FY24SAVE10PL.

$100 off the gen 1 ultra is what the price has been for at least the last 3 months if you’re watching for deals. I can’t see it taking more than 2-3 months for discounts to start appearing on the gen 2 ultra.

Most reviews of the Ultra 2 I've seen say the extra brightness and processor speed are marginal improvements at best over the Ultra 1.

I'd consider an Ultra 1 for $650 for the bigger display and longer battery life. Or I'd wait for the Ultra 3 in hopes that it's a bit slimmer and lighter, or at least comes in more than one color option.

Someone said buy the Ultra 2 not the 1 for carbon neutral / sustainability reasons. I'm happy about Apple's sustainability efforts and I agree this is important. But they are not making any more Ultra 1's. If you buy an Ultra 1, you're buying something that was already made, the damage has been done whether you buy it or not.
We should all buy the Ultra 1 then immediately recycle it without opening the box, so we are giving back to the environment, I know that's what Tim would do...

I would not buy these. The Ultra 2 is carbon neutral so saves the environment from disaster. By buying the first ones, you are basically saying F the environment.

Uhhh...it isn't like buying one of these already made first versions is going to cause another first edition to be made impacting the environment. If anything, one could be saving (or delaying) one more watch going to the landfill by buying an already produced first edition instead.

Isn't it just worth spending the extra $$ on the Ultra 2?
At these “deals” yes. I got one on OfferUp 2 days ago with 3 months left of AppleCare, the OG box and 100% battery life for $500. More than that, and I probably bother going with gen 1. But the differences are so minimal, $360 off a new model after tax was a no brainer. I expected better clearance deals by now on new models of Ultra first gen. Maybe more are coming, but I can’t complain for the savings I got.

Well this is unfortunate - I've been a huge fan of Apple leather cases since I bought my first one for my iPhone 6s, and that is all I've used since (although the leather case for my iPhone 13 hasn't aged as gracefully as previous iterations). Anyone know of a leather case make with a similar look, feel and quality to older Apple leather cases?

Edit: I don't even know how this ended up here - I wasn't even looking at this article and somehow this got posted in completely the wrong place. I was looking at the article about the finewoven cases at the time.

That's hilarious. You strayed a real long way away.....

Thank you for sharing this! Regular Best Buy member/cardholder and the code worked for me this morning. With the 5% back in rewards, you save even more.

Found my same watch for pickup today. All about the savings!
