Dear Apple

You broke my heart. I was saving my money to buy the AirPods Pro Max because I love all things Apple. However, you have hurt my feelings. You set the price out of reach for me. I feel rejected and unimportant. Apple I have been yours exclusively for almost 20 years, never dating any other brand of electronics. This is the first time you made me cry. Don't get me wrong, I still love you Apple and I always will. However, I know now to be careful with giving you my heart. I know now to not always trust you and keep my guard up. Sign me:

Glancing at the list of Apple tech you own, you find it out of reach to pay $600 for a pair of headphones?

Don't get me wrong, I feel the same way you do. I felt my AirPods were a bit expensive. I don't think I could pay $600 for a pair of headphones even if I could afford it.

Really interested to see how these compare to Beats Studio 3s.

Well you are wrong!! $600 for headphones in the first generation is too much for even the most loyal fanboy on earth. Maybe after generation 2 or 3 with huge improvements but no increase in price. Apple has actually hurt my feelings!!

You have a $1200 smartphone that is 1st gen of a new design... granted, not quite the same thing as a whole new product class, but Apple has sheparded the Beats brand for awhile and this is somewhat an extension of the tech in the Airpods Pro.

Apple really hurt your feelings with the price tag? I think that that is very unbalanced thinking.

Man they totally skipped the $400-$500 range. I was expecting at most the mid $400's. They went straight for the jugular!! Broke my heart!!!

I'll grant you that, projections for these landed around $400, so the cost is higher than expected by a fair amount.

*But*, ignoring that, if we're looking at these as the next level of consumer-fi wireless headphones (ala Bose/Sennheiser/Sony models), given Apple's R&D might, the cost for these could be justifiable.

And the build quality really matches its price point well.

You don't even get wheels for a Mac Pro for that price!

But on a more serious note: Like the Pro Display XDR (or the Mac Pro) these AirPods Max play (!) in a different league than most here are used to. MacFather showed one example in this thread and there are many more, way more expensive headphones out there. In another thread here I saw Sennheiser headphones for $59,000.

These are not your plastic Beats. This is Aluminum and Stainless Steel and whatnot. You might not care about that. I personally would not pay extra for that right now. But others might and will.

And who says that there won't be cheaper ones coming later. That's what the rumors said anyway.

It would be great to see these in person. I am pretty sure that they feel pretty, pretty nice … Maybe better this way :D

I would pay but I’d have to see and test them first. The world world also have to be back to normal.

I’ve been working from home since March and we will continue to likely until at least the summer.

I only used headphones of that type in the office. Can just playmusic at home and airpod pro is fine otherwise

Third party retailers have sales on Apple and other OEMs headphones several times a year.

Yup. I bought my Beats Studio 3 and AirPods Pro from Amazon for significant savings over MSRP during sales.

And we've seen how HomePod's MSRP dropped from $349 to $299 and you can at times find it on sale from third parties for as low as $199. I would not be surprised by next summer if AirPods Max were available from some retailers for perhaps $399 - still pricey, but a decent discount off MSRP.

Right now, you can get an iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, and Apple Watch (all 2020 models!) for just over $2,000 msrp TOTAL. That's fantastic value on a very capable set of devices, maybe the best "value" lineup Apple has ever had.

Yet at the same time, they've introduced this super high end tier of products where the prices are just staggering. Even putting aside the Mac Pro (and wheels!) / XDR Display (and stand!), which are true "pro" products, we've got $550 headphones, $350 iPad keyboards, and $1200 phones.

It's an interesting dichotomy. They want to make their "low end" products accessible to a lot of people but are not afraid to charge sky high prices at the high end.

Yes. Thanks for posting those numbers.

Also Apple will also price match to 10% Amazon, B&H, Best Buy or Microcenter if you ask nicely and show the Apple specialist the online sale price in store too. So while not an official ‘sale’, Apple may just price match these to 10% off.

Does this work online or just in a physical store?

Really? I have never heard that. Sure wish I knew this sooner!
