Why in the world is this not available also for Intel Macs?
The technical reason is that the game relies on Metal 3, and Metal 3 in turn relies on certain features of Apple Silicon GPUs, not the least of which is tile-based deferred rendering for acceptable performance. The GPUs in the overwhelming majority of Intel-based Macs use immediate-mode frame rendering; Intel only started supporting TBDR in 11th generation chip GPUs (which are not found in any Macs) and AMD only supports it in Vega GPUs, which are found in a very small subset of upgraded iMacs and Mac Pros.

Weeeelllll that’s the thing. M1 Pro base 14” MBP. I don’t expect it to run terribly well. That’s why I’m curious just to see how it would run. I’m honestly not that interested in the game. I’m gonna wait and see on Mac gaming a bit until the M4 or so when I might possibly be able to justify an upgrade to one of the SoCs with ray tracing.
I did not have time to try it on my M3 maybe tomorrow. I would think M1 Pro would be just a little slower than M3

Same issue on an M2 Max 32x38 2TB Studio. Can't get the game to load no matter how I try... No doubt an update will be coming along shortly. FIXED!
You need to login in in GameCenter in your settings. Then it runs.

Interesting, why?

iirc the online part was completely optional in the PS5 version. Is it forced on you in the mac port? With whose permission?

You can't run the game if you don't have internet connectivity then?

I believe there is a LOT more to just the GPU when it comes to the PS5. Sony knocked it out of the park with that thing. I remember when a family member started lauding it before it had even been released, (based on press release), and me telling him that I'd heard it all before.
Once he got one. I had to eat my words. The great 4K gameplay, truly lightning fast load times, huge game catalogue. It's far and away a abetter value way to play games than any Mac. In fact idf you wanted to add £500 to upgrade the Mac you were going to buy to get better game performance, you'd probably still be better leaving the Mac as it is and buying a PS5 to go along with it.
Of course but that's a different discussion, Macs aren't made for gaming even though recent ports prove it's absolutely possible. I also think a Nintendo Switch is better for gaming which is much slower. But it was stated the PS5 is faster than the M3 Max so that's purely about specifications.

The rest of the world moved on.
Would be interesting to see what is the ratio of ARM Macs vs Intel base macs. I think that there are still many users with Intel based Macs who bought them in 2019, 2020 or even later.

Thanks for the explanation. But your last sentence still means that they could support Macs with Vega GPUs if they wanted to.

Yeah I get that.
I find quite often that fanboys, (not you), quote benchmarks when it suits them and then say it doesn't matter when they don't. Which also is a different discussion.

Reminds me of the Linus Tech Tips / Tim Sweeney altercation. Tim came out prior to PS5 launch and said something like "there's nothing in the PC space that competes with the PS5's storage architecture" and Linus promptly opened his mouth and inserted his foot by reading the specs off of an NVME M.2 box and calling Tim a Sony shill. After a brutal social media dragging, Linus admitted to being wrong and apologized to Tim.

I can imageine. I'm still staggered that nobody has yet caught up with the combination of games catalogue/performance/price offered by the PS5.
Too noisy for my liking but it absolutely lives up to the hype.

Without any doubt, but that doesn’t mean developers will want to develop for a shrinking market.
I had a 2015 MBP with a eGPU, but as capable as it still was I knew 2 years ago I knew it was something the was getting old and outdated. And with the silicon chips chips I guess it is way easier to make it iPhone, iPad and Mac compatible than it is to make it intel and silicon.

An ugly truth?
Mind you I still think there is a pretty big market there.

Play in 1080p :) I hear no noise from mine. Underclocking for the win!

Btw, Death Stranding 2 just got announced. I'm going to preorder it (only Kojima and Soulsbornes get that honour) ... for the PS5 of course.

5 years later Cook will happily announce the app store exclusive Mac port.

If you just play digital games it is pretty quiet. The disc drive is fairly loud though, no clue why they didn't do a better job of isolating it.

lol.
I don't actually have a PS5. A family member does. But 1080 might just be the ticket.

Really? I can't say I've noticed fan noise while gaming at all. Maybe it's time to clean your's?

When people say that they either use headphones or turn the volume way up :)

I can hear the fan spinning up sometimes if i pay attention, even at 1080p. I'm assuming at 4K it would be more noticeable if you play with low sound volume.

I'm sure that's partly what's happening to me: 1080p and inside a (definitely not soundproof) cabinet. If the HVAC is off, and the TV is muted, then yeah, I can discern the PS5's fans. It's louder than the Apple TV, but MUCH quieter than the PS4, PS3, Wii, DirecTV DVR, or HTPC which have all occupied the same space over the years.

I quit the App Store. Rebooted the iMac. Opened App Store now shows Cloud icon. I clicked it and it started to download and finished! It's now installed!
The download did start the next day. Guess was high traffic? Or collided with the patch release

M1 Pro should be quite a lot faster than M3, no? On Geekbench's graphical comparison it's miles ahead...
