There's a heated debate about whether Android or iOS crashes less that deserves its own thread.

Best way to settle is to prove it by posting a screenshot of your device's uptime. From my experience, Android regardless of Kit Kat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, etc. runs forever unless I forget to recharge it.

On Android, uptime counter is built-in under Settings > About phone > Status.

On iOS, there's an app for that.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/system-status-lite-battery/id407752428

Moto G1 running Lollipop 5.1 used primarily as WIFI VOIP phone, learning golang with Termux, internet surfing/media consumption, local media streaming, a little bit of gaming, etc. Forgot to charge it about four months ago so user error. :D I know others out there can easily beat 3097 hours.

I sincerely cannot remember the last time I had an app crash on me with my S7E. This is the most stable and reliable smartphone experience I've had in all my years with Android and iOS.

I've had more apps crash on android, but I've had more system crashes on iphone. Just sit there and poof, white screen with apple logo pops up.

That's exactly what I've experienced as well.
There are noticeably more App crashes on Android, while the OS itself on a Nexus is 100% stable.
Seriously, I can't remember a single crash since 2013.

Apps not being as stable as on iOS is probably due to fragmentation in hard- and software.

I guess I should amend that, I've had system crashes with Samsung phones more than iPhone. But compared to any Nexus/Pixel phone I've owned, iPhone crashes more. I remember hearing the Samsung splash screen in my pocket on more occasions then I'd like.

Between my Note 5 and iPhone 6S+, I have more app crashes or launch fails on the iPhone.
For both the OS itself has been very stable. Though I have seen some "wake up and the iPhone has rebooted itself" that I do not see on the Note 5.

What Samsung model and was it stock OS? I've never had a Samsung Note II, Note 3, Note 5, S6, S7 Edge, etc. running stock OS reboot once. The only devices that spontaneously rebooted on me were the Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 but they were running the newest Android. The only app crash that stands out since it requires jumping through hoops to restore temporary functionality is iOS native mail client that stops working with a blank white screen, requires a reset all and restore from backup to restore functionality until it does it again. Usually any misbehaving Android app can be cleared up by clearing data/cache, force stop and relaunch but it's been rare.

Note 3 and 4, didn't have the Note 5 long enough. I don't root my phones so every one is stock OS with a layer of the manufacturers crap on top (layer has varied in thickness over the years). Don't change my launcher either (can't with the Notes as you lose some functionality).

I used to have random restarts with my Note 4 but that's about it.
Some apps will go slow on my S7 (NZ specific apps) but no crashes.

I've had maybe a couple of app crashes over the last 10 weeks on my Android (Marshmallow) phone but zero system crashes. I definitely get more crashes of both types on iOS.

It's kind of incredible how insecure this sub-forum is. Can't you just be happy with your Android devices without constantly trying to prove that Android is "better"?

I've owned and used both over the years. I don't think there's any stability advantage to either OS or the apps themselves. My Nexus 7 crashed a lot, catastrophically, which I guess was the hardware because my Nexus 5 was solid on the same releases.

I can't remember my 5s ever crashing. My 6s+ has never crashed. Safari has (white screen), and a few other apps have also been buggy in iOS 10. Apple will eventually work the kinks out, iOS 10 is still in its early versions.

I've got a 6S+ and an Xperia XZ. No particular allegiance either way...and I haven't installed iOS10 yet either.

iOS 10 is by far the worst mobile OS I've ever experenced on Android or iOS. So for me iOS is by far worst.
How do you deal with the Android 6 month slowdown? I've had multiple and they ALL decay quickly after about 6 months of use.

They were discussing the issue on All About Android with an hint of acceptance, as though there is nothing they can do about it

Isn't it funny how some people do and some people don't?
I've never noticed it and I usually keep my phones for a year, not any longer than that though...
I have used friends and family's phones who have but it's usually due to poor housekeeping, no space left, not updating, clinging on to apps that are supposed to help but make things worse etc...

It's not across the board in my opinion.

I don't experience it? I have a Nexus 5 and a Sony Xperia Compact Tablet. Both run fine. But neither will get the latest Android now either. I find it a myth that all Android devices slow down anyway.
And besides if they do unlike iOS devices at least you can roll back to previous versions.

And today I made a call home from the car, the call dropped mid way through and the iPhone decided to drop the Bluetooth connection........

Yeah iOS 10 is a total mess!

I have had tons of android stuff from 2.2 right up to 5 an not seen a crash.
I only recently move to ios and upgraded to ios 10, I have not used it long enough for fair comment yet.

I only us my iphone as a phone an to play youtube, clah of clans and boom beach.

So far both OS seem stable

In my experience ...

Apps crashes happen far more often on iOS vs Android. Nowadays an app crash on Android is basically nonexistent, unless you search for the most ad infested poorly written fart app.

Android OS itself used to have occasionally random lag lockups. But I haven't seen that recently on any flagship devices. Budget devices might still have that issue, but rarely, as I experienced it twice on the Blu R1 HD.

My iPhone 7+ has apps crash and freeze all the time, sometimes the entire system freezes up for a second. It also rebooted with some apps, but I haven't seen that since the initial iOS 10 release. The last Android phone I had, the Note 7, had some reboot issues as well, and intermittent lag. Honestly I'd say they were about equal in lags and crashes.

I agree, there isn't any stability advantage to either OS in my experience. They are both highly technical pieces of hardware which run very complex functions, I'm actually surprised and impressed they don't crash/lag more often. Seeing just how much this forum has turned into this versus garbage, I think we could have done without yet another iOS versus Android thread.

I have had apps crash in the background pretty frequently on Android. Not even apps I had running. I'd just get a random pop up that said some app crashed that I wasn't even using. I've even had it pop up again within a few minutes with the same app. I suppose that could happen on iOS, but iOS doesn't notify you when an app crashes like that, so I would never even know.

But I have had SpringBoard on iOS crash several times in recent memory like @BoxerGT2.5 said while I can't remember that ever happening on one of my Android phones.

I own both a 7 Plus and a Pixel and both have been rock solid. I'm running the latest public beta on the 7 Plus and stock firmware on the Pixel.

I just switched to S7E yesterday and both my banking apps have crashed once. I also had 2/3 "... stopped working" message. My iPhone SE on iOS 10.1 probably had 1 app crashed in the last month.

Overall, both systems are pretty reliable nowadays.
