I still have 35GB free out of 64GB on my 6S. Nonetheless I want enough storage for all my music which is over 64GB at the moment. But that could grow if I decide to re-import my CDs in Lossless.

i guess you could potentially benefit from the larger storage space. but you need to decide youself if you really need lossless. do you have good noise cancelling earphones (can be expensive and hard to find since we dont have 3.5mm jack now)?

I would get the XR. The notch is the future, soon enough apps are going to be designed for the X/XS/XR. Why pay for old tech?

Hmm seems like the XR is the way to go. Perhaps I’ll wait until I can try it in person. Still deciding which colour to get between black and white. My 6S is black. The 8 is the same form factor as my 6S which I do think is getting outdated. Just not too keen on Face ID. Apple should have put the finger print reader in the Apple logo on the back. That would have been perfect.

My comment on this topic is that, if one is to place a case on the current iPhone models, is colour choice even a factor - (can't really see if a case is installed)?

All that to say, I would just go with either a Xs or Xs Max (depending on the size you want).

To me, you get the retina screen, etcetera. Plus, resell value would be better, no?

There are lots of transparent cases out there. Personally I don't really care about color, but if I did, I'd use one of those so I could actually see/appreciate the hue.

The XR is definitely a better value than the 8, esp if you’re fine with 128 GB but want more than 64 GB.

Remember, the screen real estate of the XR is the same as the Max, bigger than the 8 Plus and almost 50% more than the 8.

The XR has a retina screen. And the XS and Max will likely have a worse resale value if the X is any indication. At least around here on a percentage basis, the X just isn’t getting the resale value of previous gen phones. I guess people just don’t want to spend CAD$1000 on a used phone with no warranty, esp. with the bigger and faster XR coming.

The XS is too expensive. It’s $1,379 for just 64gb of storage. I’m sure it’s a great phone but out of my price range.

If Storage is an issue I would just pop the extra money for the 256GB Xr. You get the storage you crave from the iPhone 8 and you get the performance upgrades and full screen display of the Xr.

The iPhone 8 is essentially a iPhone 6SSS if I was going to buy a phone outright I wouldn't be buying the 8 right now, not with the minimal price difference between the 8 and Xr (even if you got the 256GB Xr).

well whichever phone I get it would be on a renewed contract for another two years. I still pay the full price at the beginning though. At least that’s how it was last time.

I would get the XR over the 8, XS, and XS Max (in fact, that is what I intend to do), but color has nothing to do with my choice.

I've weighed upgrading my 6s to the 8, 8 Plus, both XS's, and XR. I've really wanted more screen than my 6s, and I don't think an 8 will make my user experience that much better. I love the LCD screen of the Plus-sized phones--they're ever so slightly but nicely more crisp than the 326 ppi displays. Still, the overall size of those phones are larger than I want to carry.

The XS isn't really as large as I want, though it's better than my 4.7" 6s, but, honestly, the price of the XS and the XS Max are simply beyond what I'm willing to pay. I can afford it (mortgage is paid off, no debt whatsoever), but I simply cannot justify it for me.

So that leaves me with the XR. Sure, I would prefer the nicer OLED screen, but not for hundreds of U.S. dollars more. A 128GB XR comes the closest to hitting the sweet spot for me. The screen will be fine, it should have a really good camera, and it has the same A12 chip as the XS and XS Max.

For me, it's a matter of value. I can justify $799 for a 128GB XR and, I think, be completely happy with it. To get the next step above the 64GB XS pushes you to the 256GB and a cost of $1149, not to mention sales tax. And the comparable XS Max is $1249. For those who buy the XS and the Max, more power to them. They are great phones.

So 8 versus XR" For me, it's an easy call--the XR over not only the 8 but also the 8 Plus, XS, and XS Max, but there's a reason different flavors of ice cream are for sale.

I agree. XS doesn't display enough information, and XS Max costs too much damn money, and the forced jump from 64 GB to 256 GB just makes the pricing worse. I've said before that I feel that the pricing of the OLED models is about US$100 too much.

Before the keynote, at one point this was what I was predicting:

US$799 - 6.1" LCD, preferably with a higher PPI screen, and single-lens camera
US$899 - 5.8" OLED
US$999 - 6.5" OLED

Instead, what we got is:

US$749 - 6.1" LCD, 326 ppi screen, and single-lens camera
US$999 - 5.8" OLED
US$1099 - 6.5" OLED

I didn't think Apple would come up with a lineup with such a huge gap in pricing. There is a $250 jump in cost going from a big-screen LCD to a small screen OLED. And to go from big screen LCD to a big screen OLED is a whopping US$350 jump. And to get more than 64 GB, the price difference is a whopping $450. That's ridiculous, just to get an OLED screen and an extra camera lens and sensor (and 3D Touch that most people don't even use).

I'm 99% sure we won't get any more 401 ppi LCDs come 2019, but I can only hope that they'll drop 3D Touch on the OLEDs and reduce the pricing of the OLEDs $100 across the board. Either that, or else make the base model OLEDs 128 GB, but somehow I don't think that will happen in 2019.

I'd be OK spending US$1099 in 2019 for a 128 GB 6.5" OLED without 3D Touch, but I'd happier spending $899 for a 128 GB 6.x" higher ppi LCD with dual lens camera. OLED just isn't worth a $350 premium to me, much less a $450 premium.

Wait, you’re on a two year contract but getting no subsidy? You’re paying full price upfront but are still locked into a contract? That sounds like an awful deal.

Here’s an alternative: Buy a used X and sell your current phone. That will come in well under your budget and you can still get more storage space plus the screen size you want, AND you won’t be locked into a contract.

That seems to be the way it was when I bought my 6S. I've thought of buying an iPhone X but they seem to be around $1,000 used up here. That's basically the price of a new XR. Either way I wonder how much I'd get for my 6S. It's in perfect condition and includes the box and all accessories.

Yeah I'd have to get used to the bigger screen. But I did the same when I want from the 5S to the 6S. I like the XS as it's basically the same physical size as the 8 but with the bigger screen. But it's also more expensive.

To be honest mate, as much as I really really really hate to admit it! I will hang out till I can see the XR in person before deciding what to buy, because I’m not 100% convinced that 64GB is enough for me on the XS and no way am I paying for 256GB! Plus, I don’t know, if I spend a grand on a phone I’m not sure how I’ll feel after a month of ownership and the excitement has gone..
I’ll need to see what it’s like and how big in the hand it really is, and if I can cope with losing 3D Touch. Everything else about the XR is exactly what I want especially the camera upgrade looking at the XS photos thread!

At the moment, this is kinda where I’m heading, and I also do not like all these reports of signal issues people are having with the XS! For the utterly obscene price your paying for a phone, it should damn well be absolutely 100% perfect for every single person out of the box! It’s frankly embarrassing that a phone can’t actually work as a phone due to loss of signal yet costs over a grand! Not saying Apple won’t fix it, so long as it’s not the antenna design at fault, but they shouldn’t need to.
Thankfully the XR has the same antennas as the X and 8.

In regards to screen resolutions, the iPads currently have 264 PPI and I doubt very very much Apple will be increasing this much if at all with the new models, and I have yet to hear ANYONE complain that the resolution on their $1149 12.9” iPad Pro was rubbish or poor or from the 1990’s or the same resolution as the iPad one!!!
In fact, if Apple stick to LCD for the new rumoured bezelless iPads, they will most likely be using the same tech screens as the iPhone XR is!

Yeah I think I want to see the XR in person before I make my decision. I don't think I care about 3D touch coming from the 6S.

The 6s has 3D Touch. But if you're not using it now with the 6s, then you won't with the XR either.

Luckily, the most important 3D Touch feature IMO, which is keyboard cursor mode, works in iOS 12 without 3D Touch by long pressing the space bar.

Yeah I don't use 3D touch and have no idea what keyboard cursor mode is. I haven't updated to iOS12 yet either.
