I spoke to my best man who said it's pretty random - he's head of one of the digital departments at Barclay's in Canary Wharf, Barclays pay his (large) salary and they wouldn't even give him a mortgage!

He recommended I tweak a couple of things, which I tried, but rejected again.

Have bought it outright - £1800 bit of a hit on the wallet, but looking forward to it!

Can I ask what the tweaks were? Both me and my wife were turned down with excellent scores and good credit history

Hi all - not sure if this is the right forum but I couldn't find many threads on here about this, so thought worth asking.

It's time to replace my old 2013 MBP, so went to pull the trigger on a new model. The blow of getting the 10th gen rather than the base model would be considerably softened by the attractive 0% finance option with Barclays - but I was declined!

I actually tried to apply for Barclay's partner finance when I bought a new MBA last month (returned it, hence now wanting MBP), and was declined then as well. I'm 34, have got an excellent credit score (always pay my Amex each month) and a good salary etc. I rung Barclays who basically said they weren't able to tell me the reason I'd been declined, but it was because I didn't meet some of their criteria.

Even tried getting my wife to buy it for me (bigger salary than me), but she was turned down too...

Anyone else had a problem with this? Doesn't make much sense - I've not been turned down before!

Any help massively appreciated - otherwise looks like I'm paying £1800 outright - ouch.
Big Barclays Bank finance scam offer 0% then declining applications. It’s a scam by Barclays finance to get contacts numbers etc . By not charging apr they get load of application but can’t keep on losing charges . We have Experian credit check with gd score yet declined!

As someone who has worked on the development on finance acceptance systems, you not getting credit may have nothing to do with your creditworthiness, it can even be a data issue, software bug, perhaps even a criteria oversight by the company during analysis phase. There are so many reasons these things can happen it is better to forget and move on. No system is perfect unfortunately!

Were you registered as a voter at your address? I also believe the length of time you have lived there helps. I was accepted no problem last year for a iPhone. I do have an account with them though, so they do know me.

Most likely your income threshold is too low balanced against the credit lines (available credit) you already have. They don't usually mess this stuff up. The cs reps are basically bots. They won't know.

I was attempting to answer all the questions, some of them are a bit invasive so I think I’ll just use my cc

I'm just going through this myself. Declined the finance by Barclays. 999 Experian score. Barclays won't reveal rejection reason. 20+ years in same address, homeowner, no debt, no loans. Utterly ridiculous.

Same as Lazrhog above. Have had several Barclays credit products in the past all paid on time etc. Retired but very good pension. Same house for 33 years. No mortgage. Never been refused credit before. Can’t find out what’s wrong. Tried to buy an Apple phone. Yes, could buy it outright but when there’s 0% finance over two years why would you. I’m 74. Do you think that would be a reason?

Is there a chance all your credit ratings are too good? In other words, Barclays know that you'll pay it off with no issues, probably in this instance of Interest Free, they'll be after someone who has a chance of slipping on a few of the payments... knowing how banks often operate  o_O

Where is the 0% Barclays option? If I look on the UK Apple site I can only see 14.9% financing available from Barcalys.

Yes same here.
I did get the 0% option on an iPhone (which I took up last year) but have never seen 0% options on any other items?

I think when this thread was started back in May 2020 Barclays was offering a 0% deal - OP should amend the thread title really as it is a bit confusing

Just had the same when applying to 0% finance a MacBook through Amazon.

I've had Barclays finance products before (on the upgrade programme), my credit score is excellent, I have very little debt, am a homeowner etc.

Hi

I am in an awkward situation.
I have a default on my credit report yet i applied for buying a iphone 14 pro from Apple through Barclays finance and surprising i was approved. The thing is that second say after received my iphone i changed my mind and i returned it to take the 14 pro max but this time the loan was denied.I spoked with barclays in the phone and they told me that maybe the new loan is higher which it was because i included insurance as well. She advised me to just try again just the phone as it doesn afect my credit score .I did and again declined, and then i tried two more times and the same.
What do you think guys ?How was possible to be approved and then denied?what should i do ?
Thank you

I experienced the opposite. I was buying my phone in store and was declined. I gave up and organised to buy the phone outright online without finance. Just intended to put it on my CC. However, I thought I’d try just one more time with Barclays. Hey presto. Accepted. It appears to be completely random. I have a very good credit rating; no mortgage, good income, etc but did have another Barclays loan for my sons car and although almost paid out was still active at the time of the successful application.
I do recall that it was very difficult to get an explanation for refusal. Good luck.

Take it as a message from the stars and either save up a bit or buy a less expensive phone;). Debt is good for appreciating assets, not depreciating assets.

Its quite possible, for the reaons that they gave and many others. I don't know if its worldwide but any denial of credit, usually includes the reasons in writing, so you may find out soon enough.

At this point, I'd look to pay cash for the phone, and if you don't have that, wait and save up. Owing too much credit is not a good thing
